I wondering what is your clinic advice in regards to steroids, do you need to selfisolate at home and try to minimise the contact with other people or they are saying it is safe enough for you to go to work every day and being exposed?
I am taking 10 mg of Prednisone (steroids) and 4mg of Tacrolimus (immunosuppressants). I am not sure if I need to call my GP for an advice.
I can work from home but my company is so against that and you need to provide them very good reasons if you are requesting working from home 😤 (old fashioned).
I would like to hear your suggestions, thank you ♥️🤗

I was on 25mg and and advised to shield for the first 12 weeks before weaning off. I chose to isolate. I'm a supply teacher so it was completely my choice. I'd say taking steroids is a good reason to work from home, that and being pregnant. Most companies would be OK with that situation I reckon, doubt they'd risk your baby's health or yours for that matter.
I truly believed that the steriods given does not truly demolished your immune system. I said this because when i was diagnosed with my autoimmune disease i was given strong steriods and i was going around people and i never got sick not even the common cold(era before covid). Since i did my transfer i was given the intralipids and was ask to take steriods before the transfer and after and i wasn't told to self isolate. I think the steriods just calm the overactive Nk not completely removed them from your body. Also as soon as i got the positive test my doctor call and told me to stop the steriod.
I was on prednisolone and I work in a hospital. I guess there was maybe a risk I might have caught something but I'd rather have had that risk than not take it. My clinic didnt say either way and I wouldn't have been able to work from home anyway.xxx
I asked my doctor before we started the cycle and she said that I can isolate but then after transfer nothing been mentioned to me 🤔 and I didn't ask either xx
I took steroids from day 1 of my FET right up until 12wks so around 15wks. May have just been lucky not to catch anything. I think technically they probably mentioned isolation as steroids are meant to lower your immune system but realistically it's easier said then done especially if it's for longer than couple of weeks.xxx
I am thinking of my mum how sick she was when she had Covid- sick for 3 weeks and 2 weeks in hospital with oxygen mask. She doesn't have any heath issue and still quite young. We are reacting so difficult to this virus 😤🤔 still in 2 minds what to do xx
If work is ok with it or your GP would write you a line to say you're on medication to self isolate then go for it as it would ease your mind. I wasnt in that position and was fortunately ok.xx
I'm on steroids for the past 2 months, but honestly my clinic haven't given me any advice. It's not ideal, and totally up to you what you do I say. I work in person with mostly little kids (and colleagues), so potential germs everywhere, but touch wood no issues so far. I wear my mask and I'm very consistent with sanitizing throughout day, and at end of the day before doing anything else. Best of luck xx
If you have the option, I would try arrange to work from home! Like you said, you might be fine, but there might be an increased risk there. We have been advised to work from home anyway if we can by the government, so surely this would be a good enough reason, especially if your work is set up for it! But I know it can be hard to talk to them.. so completely up to you. Perhaps talking to your GP is a good place to start for support. Just wanted to wish you all the best!! Xx
This is what I found from the website of HFEA. I think it is just not allowed for all the clinic if you haven’t started to take it. But probably you are already on it so it cannot be stopped immediately. My understanding is due to pandemic.
I am already on steroids, to be honest they are saying there is no evidence but I am considering myself an evidence already, after 3 chemicals in a row this is the only one pregnancy that is still progressing. Still early days for me but I am not losing hope yet 😁 thank you for sharing ❤️🤗
Yes, there is evidence especially many girls who got MC or chemical who got pregnant finally is on this. And I even know someone who didn’t take this had another chemical with PGS tested embryos. I am not convinced to do the transfer without getting this treatment. Congrats to your pregnancy and you become another evidence for me to get this medication in other ways.
If you need to be on the steroids, personally I’d take zero risk and self isolate. I’m sure your GP or consultant will give you a note for work.
I’m 38 weeks pregnant & been self isolating since Christmas. Both my husband & I are working from home. I go out walking but only with my husband. It’s taken so long for us to achieve this pregnancy I’m not prepared to take any risk. I’ve seen no one since Christmas apart from on zoom or WhatsApp. A small sacrifice to ensure our little miracle arrives as safe & healthy as possible.
Your employer should do a risk assessment but make sure you have submitted your GP/consultant letter beforehand
Even if you don’t want to tell your employer yet about your pregnancy, people on immunosuppressants are considered clinically extremely vulnerable & advised to work from home.
Hi, if you have the option to work from home then I would take it. Steroids can reduce your immune system so if you were to get covid then your body may not be able to fight it as well as it normally would if you weren’t on steroids, and I guess there is no way of knowing how unwell you could be. For other medical conditions they are avoiding the use of steroids unless they have no alternative. I hope all goes well x
My clinic is in Spain so there they don't have a problem in prescribing steroids. I can work from home without any problems, I did work from home in March and April last year when we had the first lockdown but now my company doesn't even want to hear about that. I am sure with a letter from GP they will have will have to give me the option 🤷🏻♀️
Yeah I agree, I don’t think that they can ignore a letter from your GP. I guess worst case scenario would be to get signed off work. Just thinking though, I work for the nhs and those in my team that were shielding have to come back to work after Easter (I believe national guidance). They will be vaccinated though.
I’d be the same. I’ve had the vaccine but my twins are 1 now and I’m not breast feeding either, otherwise I wouldn’t know if I’d want to have the vaccine either
taking steroids is on the shielding list! Pregnancy itself lowers your immune system, progesterone also effects your immune system and taking cortisol steroids definitely reduces your immune system, i am sure your GP will not hesitate to sign you off sick if your company will not play ball xx
Working from home will be enough, I don't want to take sick leave as I need to keep my mind busy now. I find these days very stressful... Never been so anxious before 🙈, I don't know myself like this 😤🙉
If you are able to work from home right now you should be doing so due to covid guidance. They are breaking the rules if they don't support you in doing so x
I read that on internet but I know that same medications can treat different problems... so might react differently in our case. Anyway is good to know that some clinics are not considering them "dangerous" xx
So my clinic has put me on 20mg prednisilone each day, alongside 75mg aspirin & clexane injections.
I will also have intralipids just before transfer.
I had to sign a disclaimer that I would shield during treatment. Luckily for us (or unluckily) we own a small hotel and it’s closed until May. So shielding isn’t a problem.
I have heard that steroids have been used in treatment for covid, however I’m not sure it’s pred that they use?!
Either way, it’s best to be careful where you can as it does lower your immune system.
