First time posting on here but an avid reader you have all helped a lot over the last few weeks.
Looking for some second ivf cycle advice please. First round failed earlier this month. Despite 11 follicles, ER only brought 3 eggs. Of them only 2 were mature and neither fertilised (we are ICSI)
Spoke to the clinic today and we have a follow up consultation appointment in May. They said the delay is because the embryologist is coming to the meeting. I am presuming this is not standard? Having a little panic that this means there was something very wrong with eggs/sperm. Don’t want to have to wait 6 weeks to be told bad news?
We live in Scotland so we are beyond fortunate that we get 3 fresh cycles on the NHS.
Hi LilacRoseMy first cycle failed too - I had one egg fertilise out of 10 collected. I had a fresh 3 day transfer as it was looking unlikely the embryo would grow to day 5 and it didnt.
I've been using donor sperm, which I changed for the next cycle, which was ICSI too and had a much better result.
Obviously thats a different set of circumstances and in my case whilst the sperm was good, it just didnt like my eggs. I wouldnt panic with the embryologist coming to the meeting. If anything I have found talking to the embryologists so informative compared to the clinical team. Dont be afraid to ask any questions - and if there is anything different that they recommend you do.
Each cycle is fine tuned as they learn what works and what doesnt.
Just have faith - and make the most of the opportunity to speak with the embryologist
6 weeks for a review is actually not bad for the NHS clinic in Scotland that I am having treatment with. I had to wait for 2 months between my 1st failed cycle and the review phone call consultation. And then another 2 months to be able to start 2nd cycle.
I wouldn't know why the embryologist would be in a review but I think it's good to have as much input as possible. I only had the gynecologist on the phone review. However because they raised possible issues with sperm and egg quality I think I would have liked to hear from the embryologist too.
I wish you all the best with the rest of your treatment!
Oh yeah, I’m feeling very fortunate that the appointment is only 6 weeks away. So thankful for the opportunity to try again also ☺️
Hopefully with the embryologist at the appointment I might get some more info although I do realise the first time is a bit trial and error with dosages etc.
Thank you very much, I wish the same for you also.
