Frozen donor transfer - lists of bloods to be tested

Hi everyone.... Really annoyed this afternoon... Think I have just been through every emotion in last 2weeks and have finally reached the anger stage

Following our 1st ivf round last month.. We had a chemical pregnancy. I questioned the clinic in Prague about what may have gone wrong and what bloods we could check in advance of the next frozen transfer they have already planned for January.... Their reply really floored me.. They told me they don't believe I need any blood work!

I asked how do u know am obsorbing the progestogen or that my iron, thyroid levels etc are the right level to help give me the best shot.. They said they would give me extra progestogen injections next time (only cos I questioned this) but that clinics in Prague don't worry about the level of progesterone and that it's not important. Am at a lost really... Maybe somethings been totally lost in translation but at the very least I would hope my bloods would be checked

Can anyone advise me of a list of bloods their clinic done before a frozen embryo transfer.. We have had to use donor egg and also donor sperm. We have only 2 embryos left and am petrified that they are just treating me like some kinda experiment and not giving us the best chance.

I've had similar trouble with my clinic in Kiev. It's like I can't ask questions or communicate anything. They take my money and then ignore me. Can you have a doctor near you take over as soon as the implant done? Once I get home from my implant I'm going straight to my regular baby doctor. He'll do everything I need.

We also had to use donor eggs ànd only got 2 embryos. So I told them I want another round but with a different donor. Only my husband can't travel back so we'll have to use donor sperm too. It's been such a nightmare. They won't get back to me about anything.

That's exactly how I feel.. That it seems to be all about money for them.. I appreciate it is a business and they have targets and profits to meet but I think somewhere along the way they forget their feeling with human emotions! This is it for us.. We begged and borrowed money from everywhere for this shot at ivf... We are so grateful that we have 2 embryos left but we can't afford to do any more after this.. We know its game over at that and we have to move on which makes it all the more difficult when they don't seem to realise how serious it is for us.Am same as you.. My partner can't travel for the transfers either.(and we can't both be out of work for the 2weeks we need to self isolate for on our return from Prague) . Its a lonely place when it's such a big thing.. But I think I might be a little more relaxed in Jan as I had built the transfer up in my mind to be this major experience and was shocked when it was all over in less than 2 mins!

We begged and borrowed too. I hated doing it. Now the thought of being in debt and not having anything to show for it makes my stomach turn. I heard transfer is quick. I'm glad because I hate my clinic. Love Kiev though.

I'm trying to do research to see if SET or DET is better. There's mixed results so I'm not sure. I read that a bad embryo can compromise a good one after implantation. So now I'm thinking SET is better. Can't discuss it with the clinic of course.

Let me know how it goes in January. Good luck! I think I'll be going in February.

One more thing... I'm hypothyroid and always on medication. Levels are always good on the meds but if I'm pregnant my doc says the meds have to go up. It may not seem like they need to go up on the blood work but he said it's important to increase the dose anyway. Maybe ask you regular doctor about it since your thyroid is borderline.

Hi, I’m sorry to hear about your frustrations. I had a miscarriage following IVF in January. My clinic did not give me any blood tests after that, in fact the only blood tests I’ve ever had prior to treatment were the STD ones. However, they did suggest that I have the ER Mapping. That showed that my window of receptivity was considerably smaller than the average person and they then adjusted my progesterone based on that. It has hopefully worked as this time I have made 22 weeks so far. I wish you all the best with your remaining embryos. X

Was the ER mapping done through ur clinic? .... My local gp admits herself that none of the partners in her surgery have much experience with ivf cases so she depends on me passing on what information I can from clinic n am left hoping I have understood it properly! My local hospital won't even answer phone to book scans.. I have had to go to Northern Ireland for my last scan in November and am guessing it will be same again in January. My surgeon is based in Dublin and I have phoned, emailwd, txt'd and prayed he will answer me soon with some advice.. This whole covid crap has made any kinda appointment impossible here in Ireland at min! So glad I live so close to the North and can skip in there for scans otherwise I wouldn't even have gotten to prague

Covid has definitely made things harder. I had the ER Mapping done twice. This was because the first results showed that the drugs weren’t accurate so they suggested I altered them for a month and repeat it to ensure they were spot on. Once was done at my clinic in Spain and once in London. My clinic work with a doctor here and he is able to do some of the tests and procedures to cut down on the travel and cost, this was particularly helpful with lockdown etc. My Own GPs really haven’t been involved in any of it to be honest. All of the scans and blood tests I’ve had to book privately. They only took over and started helping once I had reached twelve weeks. X

We used donor eggs in Brno, Czech. They told me to get my thyroid checked. I got my progesterone checked two days before and one day after transfer. The results were significantly different from both tests. After that, I continued monitoring my progesterone using home test kits until 7.5 weeks.

I know someone whose thyroid levels are fine but change after she starts taking medication in preparation for transfer. It's definitely worth getting these things checked out.

I do worry about my thyroid as its always just been borderline! Do you know what is considered a normal range for progestogen?

I think it should be a minimum of around 30-40 but most clinics prefer it to be around 100. It's always better to have more than less with progesterone.

You should be able to get a thyroid test through your GP. I used medichecks and did finger prick tests for progesterone and HCG beta as well.

I ask my gp to do bloods after the chemical was confirmed.. She said my progestogen was 17!! And that was me still taking 600mg up to the day of blood results mm there has got to be something wrong there... I have been taking progestogen for 2 yrs at set days of my cycle to help the endometriosis stay at bay.... Am now convinced they need to pay more attention to my levels

I think you may need more progesterone for a frozen transfer. You normally start taking it 5-6 days before transfer. My progesterone was 190 two days before transfer and about 29 the day after - taking the same medication. I was taking lubion twice per day but had some leftover utrogestan from a previous cycle. I added or took away utrogestan each time my progesterone results came back, if needed.

Ive had similar problems after failed transfers with my clinic in Spain. I also have double donor embryos. They don’t seem to want to do much in the way of testing after each failed round, just want to keep doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome. I always have to push for something which is then agreed to reluctantly. After losing 4 embryos (one miscarriage and 3 failed implantation), I’ve said no more, until I figure out what’s wrong. They tell me I should be pregnant by now with using double donor (not exactly helpful when they can’t explain why I’m not).

I do have a thyroid problem so I test that a couple weeks before I start my FET prep, they do repeated STI checks each transfer as it’s required in Spain and then test my progesterone which has varied from 14-28 ng/ml either the day before or on the day of transfer. Each time I ask what it should be and they tell me it’s perfect....they can’t all be perfect, that’s a wide range!

After transfer they have me do HCG at around day 13 and then repeat progesterone if it’s positive.

Outside of the IVF process I also test the vitamins most likely to be negatively impacted by my thyroid (vit D and an iron profile).

Because of the recurrent implantation failure and having ruled out ERA issues, I’ve had immune bloods done, but I’ve done this through another clinic here in the UK that I approached for a second opinion. I’ve found what I think is the problem with my immune system, sadly I haven’t responded to the drug treatment. Need to try something else.

We didn't have to do any specific bloods before an FET either....our usual screening bloods had to be up to date for HIV, Hep etc - results have to be 6 months old or less. To be honest its like this in the UK too. I had my progesterone levels checked the day before transfer because I have had issues in the past. Im on levothyroxine for thyroid issues but this is checked by my GP annually so that covers that. Its really not that uncommon to not have to do bloods every time.xx
