donor egg, fresh or frozen

hello

we're having donor egg treatment. I'm currently on the waiting list. The clinic have frozen eggs avaliable and have some donors going through the testing procedures atm. So I don't have a waiting time atm. My question is, is it worth trying frozen eggs? I know as a embryo frozen and fresh are about the same. But what about as a egg? what should we do. wait or try frozen?

Following because I may have a similar dilemma if / when the time comes. To my way of thinking, the frozen eggs are more likely not to survive the thaw so I would want to get a good size cohort I.e. a cohort of at least 10 eggs. The advantage as you've pointed out is that the eggs are ready so you can access them more quickly.

The frozen embryos are obviously more ideal but there are other issues introduced here such as the donors response to stims, how the eggs are divided (are they split between people waiting or do you get the whole cohort) and the wait times.

I think if I go to donor, which I think is a big possibility, I think I would be trying frozen donor eggs first to speed things along but I would only go for a generous cohort xx

hi! thanks so much for replying, it's really nice to hear from someone in the same situation (not that I wish It on anyone). that's a good idea, I know the dethawing process is precarious. I don't know at my clinic what they offer in amount of eggs. But I know fresh is a long wait and complicated to sink cycles etc xx

if you're not already doing so - it would be worth checking out clinics in Spain or Greece. They can pay women to donate eggs (unlike in the UK) so they are more donors available and not so much waiting x good luck xx

hiya, we bought 14 frozen eggs and all of them thawed perfectly! We ended up with 6, day 5 blasts and the first one transferred is now our 10 week old little boy. Frozen eggs do work! Wishing you lots of luck xx

We used donor eggs & went with fresh egg but froze the embryos. This way we knew we had good quality embryos before I started on treatment in preparation for transfer:

The age of the woman at the point of freezing the eggs is important so I’d be asking that question. Plus you need to do ICSI which is more expensive.
