Advice/thoughts Day 7 scan - small follicles

Hi everyone

It’s been a while since I last posted on here and I could really do with your advice ❤️

So a bit about me, I am 31 and I am on long protocol and have low AMH of 2.6.

I am currently in the STIMS phase and take a dose of 375 injection.

I had my day 7 scan today and I was told that the medications are doing what they need it to do which is good, however there were only 2 maybe 3 follicles which were quite small around 4mm.. they explained they need them to get much bigger and showed me just how big and I am feeling a little deflated now. They did explain it is not a race but I can’t help to feel that it’s a negative sign that they are still small on day 7?

They asked me to return on Friday for my day 9 scan to see the progress and have also told me to prepare to return again on Monday. I know some people are told to remain on STIMS longer and wondered if there has been any success stories similar to what I am experiencing? I was hoping for egg collection next week but finding myself mentally preparing for the worst😞

I don’t have any experience to talk from, I am on my very first round of IVF, so this is all new to me. But I have read posts about others who have had follicles grow rather quickly on only a few more days of stims. I needed one extra day myself, before I could trigger as they wanted some of the smaller ones to catch up a little. My first update scan was day 9 of stims, so my clinic did not even check prior to this.

Even if I have no real advice to offer, I wanted to post to wish you all the best!! And hopefully you will see progression on your next few scans! 🤞🤞🤞🥰

Hi! I had the same problem. On day 7 I had only 3 small follicles and they extended my stims. On day 12 they were around 10 mm and I had me eggretrieval on day 17! I had 3 good eggs, 1 got fertilized and made it to a day5 embryo. Goodluck and babydust to you!

Hi, in my first round of IVF my follicles took ages to grow and what was meant to be a short protocol, I was actually injecting for 21 days. They just didn’t want to grow to begin with and then when they upped the dose massively they went crazy 🙈 and I had mild OHSS but they might just up the dose a bit and keep doing that until you’ve got the size and quantity you need. I ended up with 12 eggs collected on that round, they just took a while to get there, it was disheartening because I thought egg collection was going to be sooner and then it kept being pushed back but things take time so I think try if possible to not worry about how long, I know it’s hard though

Thank you so much. I am happy to keep going with injections if I need to although I hoped for my treatment to me completed before Christmas. I think the worry for me is that I already have low AMH so I am not expecting many eggs but if my follicles just don't grow further, I would be devastated.. Fingers crossed 🤞

Hi KatieFor me this is entirely normal! 3 egg collections all on days 15-17. I only get my first scans on day 8 and don’t expect anything to be bigger than 6mm. It’ll be day 14 until anything might be 18mm.

As long as they are growing it will be fine. Mine grow slowly ... and then shoot up at the end quickly. (Got - Mature eggs each time )

During my first round I was so worried as I thought it would all be over in 10-12 days following all my reading. Second time I didn’t bat an eyelid.

Relax and trust you are doing all you can and things will work.
