5 Weeks Pregnant with dark brown discharge

Hi there, last week Thursday I had what I thought may have been implantation bleeding. Light brown discharge that by evening was a watery pink colour. Late Thursday night @midnight, when I wiped it was bright red, however no bleed overnight, just darker brown discharge again when I wiped. No bleed Friday or since. No discharge over the weekend. I’ve tried calling the EPU and they won’t see me unless referred by my GP and each time I call my GP, I’m told no appointments available, call tomorrow…

Could I be having a miscarriage??

I had my IVF transfer on 24/02, so am approx over 5 weeks pregnant. Has anyone else experienced anything similar. So worried x

I will say go straight to A&E , they will do some bloods work and probably a scan . A little bit of blood it could be mean nothing or something more worse. I had a bleed on just about 6 weeks with spotting after and another bleed on 8 weeks again following by days of spotting. I’ve been to a&e for a check on 6 weeks, then on 8 weeks when I had another bleed they refused to scan me and said to wait until I am 10 weeks and then if I am still bleeding to go in . I done a private scan and soon I got on my 10 weeks I called again early unit . Today I am having with them a scan , I am scared as you that something will go wrong 😑 just because I have pain constantly and no simptome of pregnancy what so ever.

Thanks also for the info/advice. We did think about going to A&E, but thought we probably wouldn’t be treated as an emergency and our hospital is already exhausted. I’ve just ordered a blood kit…might get the results quicker and hopefully get good news 🤞🏽 xxx

To be honest hun at 5 weeks a scan may not show much anyway . They will probably book u in at a later date. That's what happened to us. It could be nothing as the second pregnancy for us we bleed and it was fine but in the first pregnancy we bleed and it was a miscarriage. I hope the bleeding is nothing for you . Try and get an appointment with your doctor. Our a and e was terrible we at to wait a while for a scan . And it was our clinic who confirmed the miscarriage. Can you not get a scan from your clinic x

Bless you, it’s such a hard journey to go through…sending you much love. I had this a few years ago…had the miracle natural pregnancy, which we sadly lost but had extremely heavy period albeit was further along.

Yes, I agree…My consultant has also told us to get an embryo scan, but unfortunately our facilities here in the UK are not as easily accessible. I called a few private scan clinics Friday eve and got much the same that scanning now is too early and won’t show anything. We had our transfer done in Cyprus, so we don’t have a clinic in the UK. I’ve ordered a home blood test in the meantime to see if the HCG has increased 🤞🏽🤞🏽 and will keep trying for a GP appointment xx

Hi there, have you tried Ultrasound direct? I agree you may not see anything on a scan early on but then it may also provide you with some reassurance that the sac is in the womb and not elsewhere, at least. They can also do bloods, as can Nuffield. You could do a BHCG test and repeat in 48 hours to see if it’s increasing.

My clinic is also abroad so I do understand how hard it is to find yourself alone here. In the meantime, get that Dr’s appointment as if you need EPU access this will be a direct route rather than waiting in A and E. EPUs usually will see you from 5 and a half weeks.

Hey, aww thanks so much for your reply. I’ve not tried Ultrasound direct…had a terrible experience with them when having my pre-scans. I didn’t think about Nuffield, I’ll try and give them a call today. I have also ordered a Medichecks blood test, which I’m hoping will arrive today so I can at least have the HCG results by Friday. Had a slight discoloured discharge this morning , like the tiniest bit , but it hits sends my mind into overdrive. I tried to all my GP surgery again yesterday and 45mins later, no appointments. It’s ridiculous!! Thanks for your wishes, hopefully I’ll get some answers soon xx

Hi, I think you have saved my post, I am having a similar experience. I also had my transfer on the 24th - when I put the dates in a due date calculator and the pregnancy app it tells me I am 6+1 today, was yours a day 5 embryo?

I thought I had implantation spotting around days 8/9, it was a small amount then the discharge went white so I was so relieved as the timing seemed right, I am not sure if it would be red from implantation this far along but then in my last pregnancy I had a huge gush of red and did not miscarry so weird things can happen! I think it is a good sign that it has all cleared up.

The bleeding I have now is sometimes a bit more than normal discharge but not a flow and is really dark to light brown when I wipe. I had pain on Friday so I called the EPU today and they won't scan me until 8 weeks and just told me to call back if it is very heavy/painful!

I got a 6 week scan after the bigger bleed in my last pregnancy but my IVF consultant referred me for that.. I thought of contacting him but my viability scan with the clinc is next Wednesday anyway so I think I am just going to try hold out until then as the scanxiety is real and I don't really want them to say it is too early then have to anxiously wait for another.. Omg, bless you. Is this just so stressful, I literally feel so anxious all the time, which I know doesn’t help. Mine was a 3 day, so think I’ll be 6 weeks tomorrow…I still had in my head 5 weeks, so clearly losing track of time xx

That’s great that yours seemed to turn white, all good signs. Hopefully the change in your discharge won’t amount to anything either. I’ve seen other posts on here where ladies have said pessaries can cause some of this and also if you’re taking baby aspirin, which I am. Are you taking either of those?? I’ve been worried about the red, but my hubby feel’s so positive in that it was only once when I wiped. I don’t want to feel negative, but it’s the worry of what you see and I did have some clots in the shower so makes me feel more worried.. I’ve had nothing all weekend, so fingers crossed 🤞🏽

Gosh, another two weeks to have scan is agonising, but at least you have your scan next week and hope all will be ok. I had my treatment abroad, so I have to go for private scans and the clinics I’ve called so far won’t scan until after the point where they will hear a heart beat, so I have to wait.

Yes I’ve heard that too - I’m not taking aspirin and using pessaries back door from my experience last time, I didn’t want to tempt any spotting but it’s happened anyway! But yes the extra blood flow can make things sensitive and the pessaries can then irritate too so that might be what you had.

I had bleeding of all colours last time and clots from the old blood, I never found out what caused the bleeding though! It is awful feeling so out of control and not knowing what’s going on. It’s still brown now but I’m just telling myself if there’s no pain there’s hope and I feel really sick today too.

I had my transfer here but I’m private too, it’s extortionate! Hope it went smoothly for you doing it abroad. My scans the 29th, I should be 7+3 so hopefully you’ll get one around that time too!

Oh my gosh, I’m not sure I’d cope popping pesseries via the back door, but I guess we do whatever’s necessary for our little bubbas. Are you having to take them 3 times a day?? I am and it’s a nightmare when in the office. I’m actually lucky than most, as I have my own office, so pretty much lay in my chair for 30mins and it’s only twice a week as I work from home 3 days a week. I don’t know how people cope.

That is a good sign that you’re not having pain. I told myself the same, not had any actual pain other than twinges so keep telling myself my uterus is adjusting for the baby. Hope the sickness eases too, although may also be good signs for you. I’ve not had any sickness, but my sister didn’t with both of hers so hoping that’s a good sign for me.

The price’s for everything private is terrible…the process in Cyprus was amazing and so seemless. We’ve had ivf twice in the UK, so thought we’d try abroad. Went out last July, but sadly didn’t work, so we’re over the moon it worked this time, so praying for all to be well. My sister picked up on a vibe over the weekend before we told our family, so again hoping it’s a good sign.
