Stopped taking pessaries and Oestrogen UPDATE**

Hi so yesterday I had my 8 week scan and it all looked positive and could hear a strong heart beat which is great. I was told to also stop all medication i.e pessaries and oestrogen tablet, however since stopping I have been feeling AF cramp like feelings, more so today.

Is this normal? I have emailed my nurse and waiting to hear back from them.

I am hoping everything will be ok x

**UPDATE**

So the nurse got back to me and said the AF cramps are normal and if I have any concerns to now raise this with my GP which I find rather disappointing. So I'll call my GP and see what they say.

Ok so GP told me to go back to my clinic. Clinic told me to stop taking the medication and said if it fails, it was meant to fail i.e taking the medication won't stop it. So I guess I should listen and stop?

Hi Olivia,

I really think you should go back on it.most doctors let their patients continue until 12 weeks cause that s when the placenta fully takes over.i have been on it 5 days before my transfer and i turn 12 weeks last Saturday so i have been weaning from 3 a day to 2 a day however as i decided to take 1 a day at exactly 12 weeks,i started spotting and i am still spotting.i had my NT scan yesterday and the sonographer told me everything is fine so i contacted my clinic today for more prescription, will be getting it this week and will go back to 2 a day until i reach 16 weeks.

Thanks, I thought as much because I read on here that it's more common to continue taking it up until 12 weeks. I am still waiting to hear back from my doctor. Thanks for the advice. X

It is ok.you have to insist for 12 weeks afterall it won t affect the baby except i have heard it could be a problem for baby boys if using for longer than 12 weeks but not too sure about it.i hope we will all have successful live births in few months.take care

Oh no, this must be very worrying! Was it the ivf clinic or maternity ward that told you to stop? I was a bit surprised as I had also read people carry on taking them for around 12 weeks. I think I have enough to take me to 8 weeks and will ask at my scan on Friday.

Really hope you’re not still waiting to hear back!

Good luck! X 🤞🏻

Yeah I was worried and as they haven’t responded, I decided to take an oestrogen tablet and tonight will take a pessarie. I’ve only got 1 more pessarie left so will need to ask for more if they allow. It was the ivf clinic that told me to stop. Let me know how Friday goes and if they twice you more medication. It would be interesting to hear their views. Good luck!! I will post on here tomorrow to give an update. X

Hi Olivia!

I'm so happy for you that your scan went well and you got to hear your little ones heartbeat. 🥰

I went for a scan at 6 weeks and the IVF clinic told me to stop my pessaries. I did have a few packs left so I carried on taking them until 7 weeks then I kept forgetting. I felt like AF was coming too but it never did. I did also wean off them to 2 a day then 1 a day. All is still ok but I know a lot of women carry on taking them. Do what you feel comfortable.

Thanks Lumie and good to know you also felt AF coming but that it never arrived. May I ask how many weeks pregnant are you now and how you are feeling? What are your symptoms and when are you due another scan? X

I am 10 weeks and 4 days with twins. I have hardly any symptoms. Nothing which is wierd. Just super tired! I had a scan at 8 weeks then I probably won't be scanned until 13 or 14 weeks now depending what the midwife says. But only you know your body so if you feel you need the progesterone, then I'd get more. 😊

Give them a call x when I was pregnant with my DD I had a bleed at five weeks and even though the pregnancy was a surprise just after two failed ivf the clinic told me to continue taking cyclogest which I had left from my treatment until I was 26 weeks as (though it can be disputed) there are some doctors that agree it acts as a cushion for the pregnancy x good luck x

Thanks so just spoke to clinic again and they said to stop. I asked them why do some doctors ask their patients to continue taking them up to and after 12 weeks? They responded saying they want the best for me and there's no evidence to suggest it will help with the pregnancy. So confusing but feel like I should listen to them.

Yeah it seems to be one of those things that 40% thinks works, 40% don’t think it works and 20% are undecided on hahaha

Anyway wishing you best of luck my dear xxx
