Fridge bag/cooler: suggestions?

Sorry for the very trivial question, but I will soon be collecting my medication from the clinic, which is about 2h drive from my house (maybe slightly more with bad traffic jam).

Which fridge bag/cooler did you use to keep the medication cool? And mostly: how big should it be?

I was looking at it on Amazon and the choice is definitely overwhelming :(

Many thanks in advance!

What are you collecting? Long or short protocol? Already drugs for after transfer too? Pessaries don’t fare well in heat...

I’d probably go fairly big to play it safe, and also buy something that you can still use after. So maybe the ‘classic’ cool box size?

Note that most of these drug boxes are big but are wrapped air. If worst comes to worst, you can open them up and store the valuable goodies in your coolbox and the rest outside it.

Good luck!

I will be on short protocol (menopour + bemfola) and quite a lot of both (225+225). The trigger will be there though (hopefully two, considering my past history). No pessaries yet.

How big is a classic’ cool box? Do I need to add ice packs inside? Will the ice packs stay cool for about 5 hours (time to reach the clinic and back)? Never owed one in my 37 years of life :D

Btw, finger crossed for your FET!

Hey, Bemfola doesn’t need to be refrigerated and anyway the bottles are tiny. The Menopour does so that’s the one that’s key. I’d honestly just get a standard cool bag and some ice blocks and you will be fine. Maybe keep the AC on in the car. Try not to worry too much Hun xx

Silly reason to get stressed, right?

When I bought the medications in Greece the pharmacist prepared a nice box with ice packs, I just realised how simple but nice action that was :)

Nice to know that Bemfola doesn’t need the fridge.

Thanks xxx

We all get stressed about things that wouldn’t normally affect us due to this process. I kept Bemfola in the fridge once it was open but not before. I’m sure it will be OK but totally understand why you’ve worried. Buy yourself a nice cool bag and some ice blocks and all will be good!! Good luck xx

I decided to go for a 20l cool bag. Hopefully it will be enough for all my medications and I can use it for picnics once the world returns normal :D

Sounds perfect! I’ve just read that it can be OK out of the fridge for transportation... So you will be totally fine I’m sure. I also remember having to collect a single injection from my clinic and they gave it to me with a freezer pack.

They only really need to be kept refrigerated so that it prolongs their expiry date so that you can keep them for up to a year Or more . If you are going to be using them in the next week or even month or so as part of your current cycle then you don’t need to panic so much about keeping them cool (this is what my clinic told me)

Argh, my clinic told me that the should always stay in the fridge, and to transfer them home as quickly as possible. Who knows?

Opinions are very different 😁. I had short protocol on my second IVF cycle also with Menopur and Bemfola. When I collected my medications from pharmacy they asked if I am going straightaway home as I need to put my injections on the fridge. Menopur you don’t need to keep on the fridge only Bemfola. I remember very well that Bemfola had a sticker on each box saying that must be kept on the fridge. A cool bad and ice blocks will be enough.

Good luck dear 🤞❤️

My first cycle was with menopour and I was told to keep it into the fridge until mixed (the it could stay a room temperature). Never used bemfola. Who know?

Hi, sorry to jump in but I don’t believe that’s accurate. Once Menopur is mixed it doesn’t need to be refrigerated but until it is it does. I have just Googled it to make sure but this is what I was told by my clinic. I had to dispose of a box of Menopur that hadn’t been refrigerated.

are you referring to pre-field Menopur? I only used powder that I mixed with solvent, so no one told me to keep in the fridge 🤷‍♀️ I am sure chemist will advise her which one needs to go on the fridge

No I had to mix it it wasn’t pre mixed. I’m surprised you weren’t told that but like you said I’m sure the clinic will advise.

🤣🤣 I am also surprised, I used them for 2 cycles but never on the fridge. I just googled out of curiosity and it is saying 3C to 25 C can be stored, so apparently we are both right 😂 funny though.

I moved to Meriofert after that and injections were pre-filled and never stored them on the fridge either 😁. Oh crazy... live to learn 😂

I kept menopour in the fridge since I mixed power and solved, then left at room temperature. Always kept Meriofert at room temperature. You never stop learning :)

The clinic already told me that they need to be refrigerated and stay out of the fridge as little as possible :(
