Steriods for ivf

So I’ve had 5 previous ivf fails. All with good quality embryos. Only on my last attempt I was told about steriods to help with implantation. Unfortunately it was a failed attempt too but I strongly believe I should of been offered these a long time before. I am just starting my next fresh round to be told they are not prescribing steriods at the moment or not even doing intralipid to help. I feel like this is already a kick in the teeth and not sure with my track record is there any point in trying? I do have some steriods left over that would do the 2ww but if I did get pregnant I wouldn’t have any to continue... What’s people’s opinion?... Would you hold off till Covid 19 is over or would you risk continuing without the steriods knowing there’s even a less chance then normal? There’s always something on my journey that lets me down feeling shit 😢

I think the steroids thing is linked to covid procedures , could you ask for specifics and then that might help you decide just to wait a bit maybe ?

Hi Ruthie, not sure I can help much but just wanted to ask a bit more about the steroids - I’ve had a failed cycle and wondered what dose of steroids they put you on for the last time and for how long? Never heard of this before. Thank you xxx Good luck with your next, I think def get a bit more info from them about why they aren’t doing it — is it just related to covid?

Hi Ruthie,

Is there a specific reason for taking steroids? I found that clinics tend to throw extra drugs at you after failed cycles, my old clinic had me on intralipids and blood thinners but when I moved clinics and actually got tested for those things I didn’t need any of them. My new doctor was very much of the opinion, if you don’t need it, it can actually work against you.

I know how devastating having failed cycles can be and the want to try and explore every avenue but I’d say unless you have a proven reason you need them, is it really worth putting your treatment on hold for.

Wishing you all the luck in the world whatever you decide ❤️ xx

I would hold off I introducing anything they advise against. Steroids can lower your immune system so that’s why they’re not being used at the moment due to COVID xx

I was supposed to be on steroids due to a history of recurrent miscarriage - I chose to proceed without them as I was told I could wait up to 12

Months otherwise! I’m now 8 weeks with twins x
