I'm 37 years old with one failed ivf due to poor egg quality. My fsh level is 15.7. My gynecologist is suggesting egg donor but I haven't come I terms with it. Can I convince naturally or should I go for the egg donor? Please any advice

Hi. I am 40 amd I used my own eggs. The clinic advised a tandem cycle and I said no I wanted to only use my eggs. It took 4 fresh cycles but I am now 35 weeks pregnant. Keep going. There is time xx

Hi Emma, what does 'tandem cycle' mean please?

It means using your own eggs and a donor egg at the same time xx

Hello,

I would advise using your own eggs but doing the PGD testing on them to transfer only the healthy ones. I have wasted a long time transferring good looking blastocysts and getting nowhere. My last cycle I had 8 perfect looking blastocysts but after testing only one is healthy. I would have wasted another year transferring them but after the test I will be able to try with the healthy one and if it doesn’t work try another cycle.

Wishing you all the best,

A

I would definitely try again with your own eggs. I am 39 and I have high FSH (10.1) and AMH (4) I had IVF last July. The clinic prepared me that it might not be good news with regards to egg quality etc and said anything we did get would need to be transferred in 3 days . We got 7 eggs which I was over the moon with and some top grade embryos. I had a 5 day transfer and I am due on Saturday. Don't write it off because you just never know. 💕

Ps, they could try changing your protocol to see if that makes a difference. Mine was changed to short at last minute because the consultant didn't think i would respond well to the long. X

Even if your egg quality is not great...you can try and improve that. Try again and if all fails another option is then egg donor. A book by Rebecca Fett 'It starts with the egg' really helped me...lots of supplements you can take with healthy eating and a healthy mind with yoga. Acupuncture is great too...but at the moment tricky! If you're ultra stressed at work like i was...another option is to take time out and focus on you. These are things I did...and it worked for me :) good luck xxx

hello, I am the same age as you. I had slightly high FSH and accupunture helped me to bring that down.

I woukd also recommend the book it starts with the egg. Lots of vitamins to improve egg quality.

Good luck on your journey!

I think a lot of the decision (apart from the obvious) depends on how much money you want to spend and how long you want to try for. If you have ample money to pay for the treatments and you don’t mind waiting a few cycles then I would probably suggest your own eggs.

I decided to use donor eggs at age 41 because I didn’t have the money or the time to keep trying after 10 years. I did manage to conceive and give birth to a healthy child Using my own eggs during that 10 years but it was a sibling that I didn’t want to wait for. There was already a four year age gap and I didn’t want to go more than that.

The donor cycle worked first try!

I was always told that I had low ovarian reserve. We started treatments when I was 31. We did 4 IVF cycles and 5 IUI cycles to get my OE child... so I think that works out to roughly 25-30 embryos overall and only one of them took - none made it to day five.

Hello, it’s such a tough decision. If you go back through my posts, you’ll see my journey. I have low AMH, high FSH which of course doesn’t necessarily mean poor quality. After several attempts with my own egg, I booked an appointment to speak with the lead embryologist. It was this meeting that opened my eyes to how truly rubbish my eggs were, we didn’t have the money or the time to keep trying so moved straight to donor. The donor journey didn’t happen as fast as I thought. I first contacted the clinic we went with in Feb 19, first transfer in Sept 19 which failed & due to Covid 2nd transfer was postponed to July. I’m currently 5 weeks pregnant! So it’s taken us 18 months in our donor journey to get this far. I’m hoping every day that this is a viable pregnancy and all will go smoothly. I think you need an honest professional opinion about the quality of your eggs and embryos, then decide how many cycles you are able to afford and if that didn’t work could you afford the donor route? For donor eggs, 2 transfers, scans, bloods, meds etc it’s cost us £14k so far excluding travel. Please feel free to message me if you want. Best of luck Xx
