it’s been such a bad overwhelming week for me I had a missed miscarriage in December at 3 months. I had another transfer on the 4 of March tested and it was positive. I went for hcg which was 17 and today I retested and it has dropped to 3. They said I should come off my medications and that I might get a period. But does anyone know if it’s dropped will it go up back again. Does anyone know why this is happening could be issue with progesterone. Can someone help me as am going crazy right now and I can’t take this. As I was also diagnosed with ovarian failure. This isn’t fair you do everything to stay preg and it doesn’t help.

Hi Tywobag. I’m so sorry for your previous loss and for what you’re currently going through. I can imagine that getting a positive result only to now receive this news must be very difficult. My honest opinion is that your HCG levels are unlikely to rise and my understanding is that practitioners usually look for HCG over 5 to determine pregnancy. Anything lower than this is considered negative. If your HCG was higher at one stage and has since dropped it would indicate a miscarriage, I’m so sorry. I don’t want to tell you to stop taking your meds as I would want you to feel confident in your choice with no regrets so perhaps if you’re really conflicted ask to be retested or for further advice. Wishing you the best. Take care of yourself. Big hugs...x

Hi, it’s very hard to know unfortunately. However I understand that most miscarriages occur because of chromosomal abnormalities which make the embryo non viable. Low progesterone can also be the cause of a miscarriage but as you were take progesterone this may or may not have affected your pregnancy. However it can be difficult to ensure that you’re being instructed to take the right amounts. Either way you were never the cause and it was nothing that you did so I hope you don’t blame yourself...x

Welcome.

P.S

‘Some causes of chemical pregnancies include: Progesterone deficiency. Chromosomal problems. Blighted ovum. Uterine abnormalities. Inadequate uterine lining. Low hormone levels. Luteal phase defect.’

Hope that’s helpful....x

I am so sorry for both your losses, I agree with Tiddly it sounds so mean to say but your levels won’t go back up and I would stop taking your meds. It will be like a period this time round - I had a transfer around the same time as you. Sounds like a chemical pregnancy. Sorry for your loss xx

Thank you so much. Will do that. Did you get positive. Have you had your test. Do you know what could cause chemical preg. xx

in reply toTywo

I am on my fourth round, I have had three MC (ivf and natural), at least one chemical and three failed ivf rounds... this round was a failure. They say up to 3/4 of pregnancies are chemical pregnancies but often people don’t know because non IVF ones your period would just be a few days late. There are loads of different reasons for chemicals. It could be hormonal, it could be chromosomal, it could be an issue with the embryo development etc. There is nothing that you have done wrong and it doesn’t mean it will happen again xx

Thank you so much am so sorry about your loss. This is also my second one. May God help us and give us our babies soon. The best we can do is to be hopeful and pray all things falls into place. Should I come off medications or continue with it. Thanks you ❤️
