Antrial follicle count

Hi everybody I had my antrial follicle count scan today and I was really disappointed with the result I only had 8 😥 . I have literally just turned 37. Does anyone know if this is a really bad low number number?? my AMH is 17 but that was 2 years ago and they are going to re do that but I'm scared to know the result. I did have a round of ivf last March where I did get 16 follicles 11 eggs 6 fertilised which was really good but now I'm really worried my fertility has plummeted in the last year.

8 is a low number but it’s not bad. My dr told me today that 12 and above is good for someone my age of 31 up until about 36 years. So I think your not massively out with that number in fact that could be about right for your age. Just because you got 8 follicles doesn’t mean your AMH is bad we produce different amounts of follicles each month. Are you taking supplements xxxx

Hey, try not to worry too much! I know that is easier said than done but the drugs are there to ensure you are stimulated to a good level....there is no reason when you have responded before that you wont again! Wishing you lots of luck and positive thoughts.xx

Hello. Please try not to worry. I only have 3 follicles left and we were successful first round after having only 2 eggs collected. Xx

Hi ladies thank you so much for your replies and support. I was just really disappointed with the numbers and even though I responded ok on one of my rounds and got 4 eggs like I say I just worry in a year things may drastically changed. That's a very good point about producing a different amount of follicles each month hadn't even thought of that.

Does it matter what time of your cycle that you have this scan as well?because I had it yesterday and I am literally due my period in a few days and then I've been reading online that actually it should be done early in your cycle? Would I potentially have more follicles if I had done it earlier in my cycle?

Supplements wise I am taking pregnacare some omega-3 and also ubiquinol. I have considered taking dhea as apparently that can help you produce more follicles but it can compromise the quality and is also not licensed in this country which I worry about. Have also considered in inositoll but as I have a regular cycle I've heard that this can change it and I don't want to risk that. I got those ideas for those supplements from it starts with the egg

Hi Flora. An AFC of 8 is a little lower than we would like, but hopefully with your AMH of 17, hopefully you should get a similar result as before. Good luck and I shall be thinking of you. Diane

Hi Flora, sorry to hear the result wasnt as you expected. I've never had AFC properly explained to me, and looking back at my 1st round I had 3 on right and 4 on left, so I'm guessing mine is 7?

I was never told this was low. In both my cycles I got 10 eggs, so it cant be too bad.

But I will definitely be getting this retested at our new clinic and check with them before round 3 ! Best of luck to you xx

Hiya. The afc is a scan you have before ivf treatment to get an idea of how you might respond to ivf and get an idea of egg reserve. I've had 4 failed rounds. First 2 rounds didn't respond well with just a few eggs but the third round i responded much better getting 6 eggs.your 10 is really good at ivf.I'd love to get 10. Thank you you too x
