Follicle count ultrasound - High AFC?!?

Hi guys

Yesterday I had a transvaginal AFC ultrasound. I had a blood test too and we have our first consultant appointment on the 18th August.

He said he counted 11 follicles in one ovary and 15 in the other. Does that seem high?

If so, what impact does a high follicle count have on a cycle of IVF?

Thought it would be better to come here than to Dr Google 😂

Hiya! It's partly to do with age - as you get older your AFC drops - I see from your bio you're only 31. Even so 26 is on the high end - it's a good thing as it suggests you would get a high number of eggs doing an IVF cycle. Eg my AFC is 16 and we got 12 eggs on a medium dose of meds xx

Ok fab. Thank you. I assume the higher the follicle count the less drugs they might recommend to avoid over stimulating? (Although I am new to this so have very little info atm)

Possibly - it's also to do with your hormone levels, weight, all kinds of things xx

Hey swampy_time,

I had the same thought, my baseline scan I had 11 on one side and 13 on the other. Sonographer said it was good but was still worried. I mean when do we not worry in this journey.

So true haha! I feel like we know far too much about our bodies and what they’re up too. Not good for the anxiety levels haha
