Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to me with egg retrievals
I have had 2 egg retrievals and each time had follicle count at my pre monitoring scans of 32 and 27 follicles both times. however when it comes to egg retieval I have retrieved 12 and 8 eggs respectfully
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced high follicle counts with considerably lower egg retrieval numbers
My progesterone straight after retrieval one was very high....could this have been premature ovulation
Thanks

My doctor told me that the follicle needs to reach minimum 17mm - 18mm size to have a mature egg inside. Anything less than that size, more likely to be empty follicles or immature eggs. Therefore each cycle, the follicles need to reach minimum 17mm size in order to be retrieved as mature eggs, anything less than that better don't count it.
hi, i never had so many follicles. But during my worst cycle, in terms of numbers, i had 11 follicles aspirated but only 6 eggs. I was told that the eggs get stuck in the follicle when some part of their growing process isn't right. I don't know enough to explain it but from what i understood it has to do with the protocol you are on. I hope your doctor can explain to you.
Have you got polycystic ovaries? Ive got polycystic ovaries and higher amh. With my first stims I had 30+ follicles and 4 eggs were retrieved. Nothing made it for transfer. With my second EC I had even more follicles and we had 7 eggs retrieved. 3 made it to daday 5. Both rounds were done with same stimulation protocol. Mots of my follicles were empty.
With my last EC I had again over 30 follciles and they've managed to retrieve 22 eggs. I was on the same short protocol but different stimulating drugs and slightly higher doses.
Have they used same protocol and drugs both times? How about fertilisation rates? Best to speak to your clinic and see what your consultant have to say ❤️
Yes I have polycystolic ovaries but dont have the syndrome as I ovulate regularly and have regular periods and no other risk factors (hormones all normal)
Both cycles I was in the exact same drugs and followed the exact same protocol which maybe explains the similar results, always on lowest dose of menopur. Just very deflating when the stimulation process goes perfectly but then Poor egg retrieval results. First cycle I had conventional IVF and 4 fertilised - no D5 Blasts
2nd cycle 3 eggs mature out of the 8 and all 3 fertilsed with icsi.....have 2 day 3 embryos which I am in the TWW now
None of the doctors have been able to tell me why and sort of brush it off but im now 3 years down this road and still have no answers and labelled with unexplained!
I dont have the syndrome either and also ovulate every month. Thats the thing I don't like, if they see the protocol isnt working they should do changes, more investigations too. I feel sometimes they don't treat the individual but just use the same protocols over and over again.
Im still in disbelief with my last round tbh. A little change in the meds when stimulating and the result was completely different.
Speak to your consultant and raise your concerns they should be able to offer alternatives to improve the outcome ❤️❤️❤️
me first round! Loads of follicles but only 5 eggs. I was gutted. Clinic just kept saying it was my pcos but they did one monitoring scan and I didn’t stim for long. I stand by that they messed up and didn’t monitor and should have increased by dose if I had a lot of follicles but not of size!
I had similar numbers second and third rounds but much better result with much better monitoring and different medication.
How was your fertilisation rate and egg equality? If you have ok egg quality then numbers matter less (I have naff eggs and more medication is better regardless of what the first consultant said).
sounds very similar to me.....I totally feel in the first round I ovulated early as my progesterone straight after egg retrieval was really high. So disappointed
If we have to try again I definitely want to try and different protocol and be firm that they need to be of correct size. I also never get an HCG trigger because of fwar of OHSS which I feel could be a factor too. I just feel they get totally obsessed with my high AMH and just focus on that.
No one has ever told me yet that my egg quality is poor but beginning to think thats the issue
my Amh was high for my age when tested too. My consultants contradict themselves saying in one breath that High Amh means lower drugs and high risk of ohss, then in another pcos makes that unpredicatable but yet they didn’t monitor and were surprised when I didn’t respond.
I know my egg quality is poor because I’ve had lots of eggs but not many blasts or great quality ones.
Hope you have better luck of you decide to go again.
I useda donor for my most recent round, 11 follicles only 7 eggs, same protocol as her previous rounds which yielded double.
The clinic just said it is likely a reaction to the trigger injection, even though same trigger as previous rounds. Similar t youi tried digging for a better explanation but they just said "it happens". Frustrating! But, you have an amazing number of eggs regardless!
In my last egg collection the clinic collected half the number they expected from my follicle count. There was free fluid and an egg in there so my next trigger will be closer to EC. This is my third transfer, and my cycle with the most follicles. So 🤞🏼 Next time I get a number to match my count
Well, i have not had that experience, but I have heard over some women that have. Some had their eggs collected too early or too late or they needed their stims and treatment adjusted. There was also a case of PCOS. Usually with PCOS you have many follicles, insuline resistance and high testosterone. But there is a sort of PCOS that has high testosterone when you are young, and then suddenly after 30 or something, it lowers and becomes too low. And then they have many follicles that seem to be "ready" but they are empty (testosterone is also needed to mature eggs and make them grow) What I read is that in those women they check their testosterone and treat that first.
