Had our first consultation today and it's all happening pretty fast due to where I am in my cycle. Have been given the list for meds and been told to shop around as we are having private IVF treatment. Where have you found the cheapest meds please? Thanks x

Asda we found are the best place for getting meds, they don't profit from the meds so charge considerably less. Had no problem getting meds from them, only snag is you have to get your prescription to them before 6pm for you to get them the next day. If you go with asda, definitely ring them first as they have an outside supplier who they have to contact to ensure meds are in stock. Hope this helps x
Oh that's brilliant thanks. I assumed it might be a few days. We havent got the list yet but expecting it tomorrow and need them by 31st. He said to expect to pay £1500-£2000 for a short protocol of IVF. Is this about what you found?x
We paid around £1500 for short protocol but thats having a mixture of meds from clinic and asda (when we couldn't get meds in time as it was a weekend and to ensure we had sufficient meds). I was also on high doses of Gonal F, so also depends on doses, as cheaper doses = cheaper. Asda are very good and are very efficient. When I went in after work (5ish) they phoned my order through straight away. They called next day by 11ish to say they were ready for collection. Clinics add onto value of drugs so that they profit from selling them, so definitely worth comparing xx
Ah right, that good then, I thought it would be more around the 2k mark. Hes starting me on slightly higher dose of one of the injections, 300 IU. And the other is 0.25 which he said everyone gets. For 10-12 days. Does that sound similar? How is your journey xx
Yes, I was on 450UI of Gonal F from day 3 and from around day 6 I had 0.25 of cetrotide... Both until egg collection. After egg collection you are prescribed progesterone ( comes as pessaries, injections or patches) until 12 weeks pregnant. If you are prescribed pessaries, you can get these through your gp so pay NHS prescription charges as opposed to private charges. I'm due to start my first FET at end of Jan following a failed fresh cycle xx
He went through all of that but I couldnt quite make out the medication names, and I'm a nurse Haha. Getting our script in the next few days so hopefully get to asda soon. Thats good about the pessaries as I get free scripts anyway with having a thyroid condition. Anything I can get on the NHS my consultant is telling me to do, he is so kind and can tell he really cares about his patients. Good luck with your FET. Hopefully we can watch each other progress over the year 🌈 xx
I checked Asda’s prices before this cycle and they were generally cheaper than clinic although gonal f was actually cheaper with my clinic. One of the drugs I needed Asda would only sell in packs of 10 or 12 so it would’ve meant having to buy more so I went with my clinic in the end as it worked out about the same price and and was delivered to my home so I didn’t have to faff with sorting out the prescriptions. The pharmacist at my local Asda was really helpful though so definitely phoning and pricing them up x
I don’t where you’re based but I’ve been comparing Asda and the pharmacy attached to my clinic. Asda was significantly cheaper for cyclogest but otherwise more expensive and couldn’t even source two of my meds. I don’t know if private pharmacies accept any private prescription?? Might be worth a try? PM me if you’re London based x
Hi. I'm based in the north east. I've had a quote today from the private clinic for 1250 when consultant said expect 1500-2000 so I'll still check with Asda and my hospital pharmacy and go from there. Thanks xx
I found the same with cyclogest with one price of 39 and one of 113. But asda dont stock gonasi. Hopefully get everything from one place and the cyclogest from Asda x
Hi. I am a pharmacist and have had IVF previously. This is a question I get asked a lot so I have covered this here: pharmacistguide.uk/conditio...
With regards to getting any medicines from your GP (including pessaries) some will (quite rightly) refuse to prescribe this for you as this is part of your private treatment and the responsibility of prescribing this is down to your clinic. I understand that from a patient point of view this is a way of getting for a cheaper price and it doesn’t matter which doctor they get it from but legally they can say no.
My private clinic prescribed progesterone to cover the 2 week wait, then once a pregnancy was confirmed I had to go to my GP as it becomes the GP's responsibility to support an ongoing pregnancy. This has applied to my Enoxaparin injections too.
That’s different as this is treatment now for pregnancy and not for IVF cycle and the clinic has initiated the treatment- this is now classified as transfer of care. Ditto for the enoxaparin- hope you got on with this ok too. So many injections. ☹️
Hi I went to fertility4u. Google them. You can order over the phone aslong as your clinic or you send them the prescription. They have a system for digital signing. I payed about 800 for medication a short protocol when I had previously paid 1500 feom elsewhere. Worth calling them for a quote. They will quote without sending the prescription.
I used fertility 2u as well, but got some from them and some from Asda. They do next day freezer box delivery for the meds which need to be cold. I found them really helpful and you can look up prices on their website. Good luck.
