I have my first counselling session coming up at our fertility clinic. Does anyone know of the counsellor will have access to my records and have already read about my history or will it be up to me to tell my story? I have never been for counselling before and I don’t really know what to expect! What has everybody’s experience been like?

I only had 1 session but yes she did have access to my records and had had a look through. I hope it benefits you xx
Thank you, it was good. She had looked but didn’t know the full story x
We only ever had 1 session but he knew the background so we didn’t have to explain everything. I wasn’t really keen on it when they mentioned it but it was actually a really great session and we both felt much better afterwards! Try not to think too much about it. I was worrying about saying the wrong thing but I’m so glad we did it! xx
Mine had a brief overview but the first session was mainly me telling our story, (it's been a bumpy journey), I found it the most useful part of the whole process and never thought I would but it really made me understand what was a big and little deal to me and she helped me decide what I wanted to find out and gave me the confidence to go back and ask the nurses and doctors who were more than happy to help I had previously just not known what I wanted or needed to ask! All the best of luck! X
Thank you, yes she made me see where I have been feeling bad, some things could have been handled differently and it’s probably the first time I’ve told my entire story out loud x
Hi Aprilmama. Yes, they usually do have access to your medical history. However, there is a charity called the "British Infertility Counselling Association" bica.net you might like to contact. There is a charge, but they deal solely with fertility problems, treatment and relationships while going through them. You have to access them online. Have a look and see what you think. Diane
