Having a really bad day!

I have a job I absolutely love but it’s very demanding and stressful and causes me to travel a lot and with that comes a poorer diet. I feel guilty for pushing forward for my career and panicky that what if that’s reasons I’m not getting pregnant. The demands/fast paced of it all. I feel like crying all the time because I just don’t know what to do for the best!

Sorry for the sob story but it’s just so hard!

Hi Sarah honestly don’t worry, everyone blames themselves for something they do or don’t do but honestly sometimes it’s just shit luck!

If it was always down to busy lifestyle or stressful situation there would of been no one born during wars etc. So please don’t beat yourself up! Wishing u loads of luck xx

That's it pregnancy doesn't discriminate on things you do or don't do!

It's one of those things in life that's just bloody unfair!

Thanks ladies!

I know it doesn’t discriminate but all you hear from ppl and docs is stress free etc.

Think I’m running out of steam. I just want to get on with it and get Xmas out the way. X

It's nothing to do with things you have or haven't done that you can't get pregnant.

You can do everything by the book and still not get pregnant as pregnancy doesn't discriminate on who does things right and who doesn't!

You do the things you feel are right for you at the time and with any decision even if you do everything supposedly right there's always unintended consequences to every decision you make for good or poor.

Hi dear, its sad to hear about it. As i think its very important first of all to take a very good diet and most importantly you should take a lot care of yourself. If your family and your health is more important for you than work. A healthy mind can do everything more better than a weak mind, and for having healthy mind you have to work on your healthy diet and have to maintain your body health better. So if you really demand a baby first start working on this advice. I can understand your condition like being a working women its very difficult sometime to manage everything all together but i trust you can if you motivate yourself towards it.

It really isn’t anything to do with your lifestyle. I am exactly the same as you. I love my job but it can be very stressful at times (deadlines which I sometimes have to work very long and late hours to meet) and potentially lots of travelling. I did need IVF to have my babies but it was nothing to do with lifestyle or diet that caused that and my IVF worked without me significantly having to alter that lifestyle.

I get why you’re concerned about stress playing a part in where or not you fall pregnant. I was the same, especially at times when I was working really long hours. But I honestly don’t think it does. I think it’s good to have something to take your mind off things and focus on and if you have a job you love then that’s means that this particular part of your life is fulfilled and I think that’s a great thing.

There are others that may disagree with me but my personal view is that diet doesn’t play a huge part in whether or not you get pregnant either. However, if you do want to improve your eating habits in the hope that it helps then it can’t hurt. I was on slimming world whilst working away loads and I still managed to lose weight those weeks so it can be done even whilst travelling so I’ll share with you what worked for me. (I realise losing weight isn’t the same as eating healthily but the two things usually go hand in hand so similar advice applies). If you’re staying in hotels then it’s slightly easier than if you’re doing long days there and back.

For breakfast I would either have cereal or a piece of toast. Or I would ask for poached eggs and have them with items from the buffet like tomatoes and beans and just skip the sausages and bacon. I’d also usually put some fruit in my bag to snack on during the day. For lunch then I’d buy a prepackaged salad and steer clear of the bread. If I was still hungry then I’d also have fruit for an afternoon snack and often bought packs of chicken to snack on too. These days I think it’s easier to get healthy snacks as most places do things like carrots and hummus or boiled eggs in little pots. For the evening meal it depended on where I was eating and how good I’d been during the day as to what I ate. I lived on a lot of pasta in tomato sauce type dishes. If there’s nothing healthy on the hotel menu then most will be happy to do you a plain piece of meat or fish and then you can get a side of fresh veg. If I was eating out at a restaurant with colleagues then again most have some meals that are healthier than others so it was a case of making the healthiest choices there (eg tomato based sauces rather then cream based sauces). I remember one week we were working in the office until 9pm most evenings and almost exclusively ate pizza all week. I had a thin crust vegetable pizza with reduced fat cheese and then left all the crusts. I actually managed to loose weight that week.

Travelling there and back in a day is more difficult and if its only a couple of times a week then I’m more relaxed with what I let myself eat. If I’m regularly doing food on the go then it’s a bit harder. Depending on mode of travel/company then sometimes it’s easier than others. The trains I travel on tend to do porridge so I often have they. Otherwise I’ll buy a huge pot of fruit and a couple of Alpen light bars and eat them on the train for breakfast. For evening meal then I’d sometimes buy a pasta salad or sushi or similar to eat on the train on the way home. Or if forced to do a McDs type meal then i would get a wrap or chicken nuggets but take the coating off. All you can really do is the best you can with the options available to you. Don’t beat yourself up if you have the odd few days where you just can’t be healthy. It really isn’t going to make a difference.

Good luck with it all. I hope it happens for you soon.

Thank you for your advice! My diet isn’t the worst and when I’m at home I’m exceptionally good! I am second guessing my every move at the moment. My weakness is sugar and wine. I don’t drink a lot and allow myself the odd glass (not bottle) it helps me unwind after a long day at work. I’d say I’ve slashed my sugar intake by 3/4 but I can’t get it to 0. ESP aground that time of the month the craving fir a chocolate biscuit just takes over.

We have said wait till after Xmas. My OH wants me to chill out about food over Xmas and enjoy myself. Then diet all of jan & feb and do the ivf in March. But I’m worried as I’ll then turn 37 and I’m just wasting months.

X

I am in a similar position. My job is stressful and involves long hours. I have been trying to do less overtime and have more time to focus on my fertility journey. Best of luck to you! Lots of baby dust to you!

It’s so difficult isn’t it!

So many ppl I know have got pregnant since I started this journey and I’m getting so anxious that it’s never gonna be me. I just want xmas out the way so I can get on with it all.

Where are you in your journey?

in reply to Sarah83ap

Yes, it is difficult to juggle work with a fertility journey. I have been trying naturally for two years and will have my first frozen embryo transfer done in early Dec. What stage are you at? Let's stay positive! Xx

I’ve had two failed rounds with nothing to freeze. Was told last week that I have high natural killer cells so going forward in feb/March with treatment that can help with that! So hopefully 3rd time lucky! 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Good luck!! Not long now for you ☘️

in reply to Sarah83ap

Thanks for your good vibes. I also wish you the best of luck with your cycle. I keep my fingers crossed for you!!! Would you take special medication to help with natural killer cells? Let's keep in touch!

Yes. I’ll do whatever it takes. I’m just pleased it’s possibly treatable! X
