TMI: front or back with cyclogest?

Hi ladies,

Apologies for the TMI question but I was wondering if anyone had any advice / thoughts either way about where to put cyclogest pessaries?

The box says either but on my clinical sheet is says back passage...

Does it absorb better one way?

Thanks! Xxx

I couldn’t imagine doing it with back passage but after a lot of vaginal bleeding I switched and did it that way for 8 weeks. It’s weird but there is no leakage that way. I think it absorbed better too x

Thank you! Interesting as I was only going vaginally but they leak so much, thought I’d try the back and they seem better (like you say, no leakage) would be great if the absorb better as I think it’s the way to go xx

I think those muscles are maybe better than vaginal ones so it stays in. It’s not a very glamourous thing to do in the morning though 😂 x

Haha no dignity in any of this!!! 💖

Hello, my clinic said back passage too so that's what I'm doing. However, the first couple of weeks it gave me diahorrea which has now cleared up. Good luck! It's not glamorous especially at work but apparently it absorbs pretty quickly!

My clinic say front but I can switch to back if having problems. It's not half as bad as you think it will be, it's easy and there is far less mess!!xx

Hi, my clinic says front so that the hormone is closer to the cervix. I’d rather the back just to save the mess but they won’t have it!! X x

Back door fan here! 😂

I only tried vaginally once and I couldn’t deal with the mess 🤦‍♀️ My clinic said they absorb equally well either way x

Argh I’ve noticed that today already! Xx

My clinic and very clear that it should be front and that I should lie down for 20 mins after..I mainly did front but occasionally back when I had an early start or had to work late to fit with my timings x

Strict! Maybe I’ll double check on Tuesday with my clinic as everyone seems different xx

in reply to Millbanks

Yup..the main nurse that I see had just moved from elsewhere and laughed that they were so strict! She gave me permission to do either! X

I did it front but only because I had some tummy trouble from the sheer amount of progesterone I was on. If I didn’t I’d have deffo gone back passage for these! X

NHS clinic said back was fine and there's far less mess that eay! However, Spanish private IVF clinic where we got pregnant insisted on front! Good luck x

Gosh it’s so hard to know! Xx

If your clinic isn't insistent on one way or the other and you're taking it twice a day why not do one of each. Based on personal experience i would suggest back in the morning and front at night just before bed as less mess/leakage when you're lying down! X

Not a bad plan 😬💖

I was told back, it’s less messy and they had discussed recent research to suggest success rates are better when it’s done this way. I went to the oldest IVF clinic in the world so I listened to every word they said! I’m now 34 weeks xx

Ok great! In my mind, the back would be better as it absorbs in to the blood quicker but no idea really! Congrats on your pregnancy xx

Obviously always listen to your own clinic, I only advise you that because of the research I had been made aware of. It worked for me first time round, so who knows if it was that or something else. Good luck with your journey keeping my fingers firmly crossed for you xxx

I used back as less mess. Had intermittent constipation so would move to the front occasionally. I tried to lie down for half hour when I did it to prevent too much leakage.

It’s so gross isn’t it 🙄 xx

I’ve always done it back as it’s less messy

I'd say back purely because I did the front and ended up scaring myself as bled as irritated me. Back I found less messy. Personal preference though as absorb both ways x
