A UTI, antibiotics and a cold right after transfer. Clinic says it will not make a difference to implantation.

Putting this out here because I wish it was here when I was desperately googling this earlier this week and I hope it will save someone the panic attack I had because I thought it was all over.

I wrote earlier this week about waking up with a UTI the morning after transfer. I had to go on antibiotics and thought well, that's it. The next morning I woke up with a horrendous cold to add to the fun. The UTI isn't clearing properly, and I have now been put on a second course of a different antibiotic, this one for a week. It doesn't sound great for hopes does it? But here's the thing. I called the clinic, and they assured me it has no effect on implantation.

So, recap: I have a bad infection in the organ right next to the uterus, for which I'm now on a second course of antibiotics, and I have the worst cold I remember having as an adult. But both my wonderful GP and the fertility clinic have said it will not make any difference in terms of chances. So if you found this because you were frantically googling antibiotics, cold and embryo transfer, please don't stress like I did, go see your GP and they will sort it and it will be fine.

UPDATE: The really really bad, UTI, antibiotics for the entire tww, the horrendous cold that I'm still not recovered from, all the paracetamol, it did no harm. It was a clear BFP.

So glad you’ve got that reassurance and I hope you feel better soon!

What a bloody nightmare, why now?? I’m in the same boat, came down with a really bad cold the day before transfer and have had a fever on and off for the last few days. Thought I felt better yesterday but have now got a wheezing rattly chest so also spent all morning googling 2ww & antibiotics!

Wishing you all the luck xx

It's the worst timing isn't it? I'm never ill, why on earth now? Sounds like you should also go see your GP though, if you let them know what's up IVF wise they will take that into account and make sure you feel better sooner rather than later. I'm so glad I went. They even followed up with me this week, called to see how I was feeling and put me on new antibiotics because they weren't happy enough with the progress I was making. They really take it very seriously!

Hi Pinkfish. Oh dear you are a poorly girlie! No, the antibiotics won't affect implantation. If your cycle is to work, it will do. Try and get some rest when you can and take some regular paracetamol to help with headache and lower your temperature. Drink plenty of water and drink hot lemon and honey if you have a sore throat. Hope you soon feel better. Diane
