Has anyone experience of moving CCGs?

Hi there

I'm currently in a borough that has no IVF funding, looking to move to another borough that does.

We're about to start 3 months of Clomid and if that doesn't work it'll be IVF.

I appreciate that a lot of you are way further along in your journeys and I wondered if anyone has any experience moving CCGs? Did it cause delays in your treatment? What should I be considering?

Thanks so much

Hi, in my experience it depended on the length of the borough’s waiting list in terms of when your treatment starts.

Thank you! I'll ask them this tmw when I speak to them on the phone - thanks!

Hiya, I have no funding in my area but I figure it could cost as much to move as it would to pay for ivf... And there’s no guarantee that it wouldn’t then be cut in that area.

I found the nhs processes very slow when we were in the testing stage and was very upset a number of times when I felt we weren’t being helped. It’s a struggle paying but is a good service.

Perhaps you could call the fertility clinic to ask them directly how long it may take etc??

Good luck in your journey xxx

Thank you! The area I'm looking at moving to currently funds 2 rounds, so my gamble is that if they cut it then they'll cut it down to 1. It's also a bit more countrysidey, so would be a nice place to live.

We only rent, rather than own a place, so the costs would be less (just a removal van and maybe a bit to cover any differences in deposits), but you're right that it still will have a cost.

I've called the CCG and the fertility clinic today and they're going to call me back tmw.

It's a tough decision because we love where we live, but my husband is terrified of us spiralling into debt over IVF costs. We've had all our initial tests on the NHS but I feel so naive about the journey ahead.

Ah yes it is bloody expensive!!! There’s a good book called “get a life” about the ivf journey from a woman and a mans view, it’s great to give you both an overview, and also the podcast BFN was brilliant to find out loads of info!

I’ve just started my first go so still a newbie but liked getting info so I was sort of prepared... Ask any questions you have, I’m site everyone will help xxx

I've not heard of that book or podcast - thank you so much! I like podcasts - it's my trick to make housework bearable, so this one is next on the list! I appreciate that, thanks.

There is so much to learn isn't there. I feel like I've spent the past 2 years learning about supplements and alternative therapies and nail varnish/skin cream/chemicals to avoid and who knows what other magic cure to get a BFP... and now it's time to learn all about the different medical procedures and how to do what, when. Its amazing how we find all the extra hours in the day to Google it all!

Good luck with your first go - wishing you all the best with it.

I thought about moving as my area only gives 1 round of IVF and some give 3. While it seemed a good idea waiting times are vastly different in some areas. My journey with fertility with nhs has been pretty slow up until ivf and I’ve had no issues at all. No waiting times for ivf. Other areas may give you 2 rounds but the waiting list could be months and months and nobody will tell you how long it could be prior to starting. Just try and scope out as much as possible as moving areas may mean you need to start from the beginning all over again

Thanks so much. I feel the clock ticking as I just have a feeling in my gut that it's not going to be an easy road ahead, so if there is a long waiting list that will definitely be a deciding factor for us. I hope they're able to tell us that over the phone.

My journey so far with the NHS has been so fast, but who knows what it'll be like in the other borough. Hopefully I can find out tmw. Thanks for your thoughts.

I hope your NHS round goes well for you - best of luck with it

As people have said above, if you stick with your plan so you get IVF on the NHS just stay mindful that your waiting time to start will be longer and I do see see some women who have NHS funded and then private IVF notice a big difference in the standard of care. NHS funded is often faster paced with less time for explanation. Again all this ties differ with the CCG and the clinic.

I agree that the NHS quality of care hasnt been great so far. It's been really fast getting all the tests, but with very little time in appointments for information about options.

I'll sit down with my husband this weekend, once we have more info from the CCG, to make a decision. Thank you
