IVF - does moving house effect place on NHS list?

threesthemagicnumber profile image

Anyone know what happens if you are on the NHS waiting list for IVF but move to a different borough or CCG area in the meantime?! Do you lose your place even if you're still within the same eligibility criteria for the new area? Any advice appreciated! Thanks x

Hi

I have no idea but you can call your local CCG and they should be able to tell you xx

Hi, we moved house but kept the same doctor and we were probably a different CCG but we just didn’t alert anyone. I was concerned that if we did then we’d get moved to the bottom of their list and as it’s such a waiting game anyway, it didn’t seem worth it. X

There are people who move as their different area might offer 3 whereas where they live only offers 1 or none. It seems extreme as moving costs would have to be considered.

When we started IVF on the nhs, our local borough only offered 1 cycle, whereas where we lived before offered 3! As we did go through another 2 cycles, effectively the move cost us thousands of pounds.

I'd check how many cycles the different health authority offered, as the other comment mentions, you can move and keep your old health authority if you're in the middle of treatment, i.e your local gp has referred you and you're awaiting treatment.

Best of luck xx

That’s great advice thank you. The new borough we’re moving too offers the same provision as where we are now (both 1 free cycle) but I no some areas nearby lost funding completely recently and don’t offer any at all on the NHS now. We’ll definitely be avoiding those areas! Good idea just to stick with the same GP though. Thanks xx

I moved mid-NHS funded treatment and just didn’t mention it. Cheeky, I know, but it took two years to get the referral and I wasn’t going to risk it. I just stayed registered at my old dr and had all my post forwarded until I finished treatment 😱

That's good - I honestly don't think that's cheeky at all considering all the hoops we have to jump through and difficulties along the way. Thanks for the advice!
