Saving for FET

Had my review appointment yesterday after my missed miscarriage back in June.

Now just got to make the decision as to when to go for our frozen cycle.

We only have one frozen embryo, so want to try and do everything right to give us our best shot.

I don’t know how soon to go ahead with it, plus it’s the money side of things.

We went with access so it’s the just the medication that we have to find the money for.

They want to increase my progesterone, from just pessaries to pessaries and injections which is bringing the cost up, but have said it’s personal choice and we can just use pessaries If we wanted.

Has anyone used both?

Not really sure what’s best to do? How soon to go again? Any advice would be gratefully appreciated

Xxx

I used both this last cycle and am currently 7 weeks 😁 I didn’t have a known progesterone problem and it hasn’t even been tested/ monitored recently, but I asked for both as had bled early on a couple of failed cycles. Don’t know if that’s what did the trick, but certainly hasn’t done any harm! Wishing you lots of luck with your FET ☘️ xx

Thank you lovely.

I’m like you I’ve not been tested or monitored.

But I think I’ll just wait a few more months get the money in place then I can throw everything at it.

7 weeks that amazing! Congratulations 🥳 I hope you have uneventful pregnancy. 🥰

I’m so sorry to hear that... I’m unsure of how much the progesterone pessaries are, but I refused to use them and now have an entire cupboard full of them. Would this help? I’m in Staffordshire, but if you are truly struggling with money, I would send them to you with all the applicators.

My clinic forced them onto me, and I wanted to go natural as I believe they over prescribe

And put us on in the one size fits all box, and those ethics never gel with me. The only time I would consider pessaries is after an EC, but as my last clinic blew up my ovaries with OHSS and over medicating me knowing my AMH levels were high, I never got the opportunity. So if your truly struggling let me know.

I sit in my clinic some days and watch women genuinely beg the nurses to lower their doses as they can’t afford them. I would love them to go to someone who is struggling.

Realistically if it’s only one injection a day it about £9-10 a day pending who you go through. My last clinic really ripped me off, but my new clinic is amazing and I’ve noticed a substantial difference in medicine costs

Personal message me xx

I would do both personally! We've had two losses from our last BFPs and on the last one I had my progesterone levels checked....turned out they were really low and wouldn't support a pregnancy. I was on cyclogest 400 twice a day. The plan is for me to use pessaries and injections but they are going to check my levels on transfer day and adjust if necessary. Could you even start out with pessaries and test you levels on transfer day and add in injections if necessary?xx

They never really spoke about that, and I’ve never had my levels checked. Just seemed strange that they suggested it, when I’ve never been tested, and they still say they don’t know why I had a missed miscarriage.

I think I will go for both, I’d rather wait a few months save up for it, and throw everything at it. Hopefully it will be work.

It just disappointing that I’ll have to wait a little bit longer. But I guess what are a few months when we’ve been trying for 5 years.

It’s our only frostie, so I feel more anxious about this one, then I did with our fresh cycle. The fresh one was our 1st so I had no idea what to expect. Which could be why I’m more anxious this time.

Xx

Frozen cycles are much easier on the body so that's a definite plus! I would ask them what their thoughts are on why they think they should up your levels? I dont think it can prevent a missed miscarriage as it's very often that there is no obvious cause but mine were spontaneous. I agree I would throw everything at it this time but like I say that can test your levels and go from there too. You may not even need the injections but if you have saved up for them you're prepared. See if theyll discuss things with you in more detail!!xx

Hiya, so sorry to hear about your loss. We had our first failed cycle last month and had our review last week to talk about FET cycle. We haven't had the nurse consultation yet to talk about process in detail but consultant explained last week at high level that we would be on the cyclogest pessaries (2 a day I think like we were on with the fresh cycle) and also progesterone injections one every 3 days. I haven't had progesterone checked either and I don't think they're planning on checking it though I did get some light brown discharge a few days before OTD so wondering if they've considered that when suggesting injections and pessaries. Good luck with your cycle lovely xx

I completely agree with pushing to get tested on transfer day if possible. My clinic were adamant that they won’t, but I’ve finally persuaded them to next round.

I’ve used both and have chosen not to add the injections for my next round unless I know I definitely need them. I don’t want to put you off because they hugely benefit some ladies, but personally they made me sick as a dog. From memory we paid about £320 for 42 injections, so if you were just having 1 a day it should be less. Good luck xx

Thank you,

I think I’ll email the nurse closer to the time and request more information.

I don’t mind paying for them, if they are really beneficial.

The problem is now they have been suggested, if I don’t have them and were unsuccessful or have another miscarriage ill always think would it have happened if we had them. If that makes sense.

I completely get you, it’s natural to want to throw everything at it. And I really didn’t mean to put you off, they may well be the thing that gives you success! Xx

O no, it’s so difficult to make decisions! I’m grateful for any advice. I’ve never had a frozen transfer before. So I take everything on board that people are saying. Xxx
