How much is a sedated Hysteroscopy??

Fingerscrossed38 profile image

I'm based in London, U.K. My Dr said he wants to do a Hysteroscopy alongside my ERA but sedated like I was for egg retrieval. I've already paid £1250 for the.ERA. How much extra would a Hysteroscopy + sedation cost??

I’ve seen hysteroscopy be around £500 and I know sedation can be around£280. Why sedated? I just had hysteroscopy and scratch (I think the era biopsy is similar) without sedation. Xx

3 out of 4 women do not have a problem but for some it hurts like hell one lady told me they have to hold her down for era

Eek poor lady! I'm going to go ahead and do it alongside the Hysteroscopy under general anesthetic so I won't feel a thing. Just pray they can see enough with my lining being at its thickest at that time of my cycle

It's not cheap. It's £1450 for Hysteroscopy with GA. The ERAtrio is £1250+ scans

Thanks for replying. I'm guessing they sedate so they can remove anything they find then and there? They haven't seen anything on the 3d ultra sound but I guess it's precautionary?

Did they find anything during your Hysteroscopy? If they did, did they remove it?

How long after it can they do the fet?

They didn’t find anything, but I wasn’t expecting them to as I had another one a year before and all was fine then. I’m doing my FET cycle now - straight off the next bleed after hysteroscopy - got my period 10 days after the procedure xx

I'm glad they didn't find anything although if I'm honest I hope they find something with mine so that might explain why we keep miscarrying.

If they had have found something would they have removed it during the Hysteroscopy? Or would you have had to be sedated for that? I'm not sure why they're opting to sedate me when they don't know what they'll find.

Was the scratch painful?

Best of luck with this FET 🍀

No, I’ve known people to have things removed there and then with gas and air available, but I guess certain things may need a sedation, I just don’t know. This scratch was more painful that the last. But as soon as the scratch finishes the pain goes, so it’s just a case of 20 seconds of pain then all gone! I know why you mean about wanting them to find something, but I’m quite happy that there was nothing wrong as at least we know my uterus is in good shape xx

True. Really got me wondering why they're jumping straight into sedation...thanks for replying :-)

Sorry to bother you again. My clinic just told me the Hysteroscopy will cost £1450 and it may be done sedated! They said you can't have one done without it! I've watched You Tube clips of women having it in office with saline and air into uterus and a camera inserted to have a look around. This is what you had done right? That is called a Hysteroscopy in the UK too? I'm very confused.

Hmmm I think it may be the hycosy that is cheaper... I just googled and found prices around £2k for a hysteroscopy in the uk! Mine were both nhs, I’m sorry!!xx

Fingerscrossed38 profile image
Fingerscrossed38 in reply toOrla9298

Hmm aside from the price though did you have a Hysteroscopy that was not sedated where they had a camera not an ultrasound? I've had a hycosy that was done with ultrasound to flush saline through tubes...

Yeah I had two full hysteroscopy with cameras, in theatre, twice without sedation.

I was definitely not sedated either time though! I try and avoid it, I haven’t even been sedated for my last 3 egg collections. But it wasn’t even offered for my hysteroscopy so I’m not sure why they are saying that to you xx

I don't know why either! Wow you are strong having no sedation for egg collection although I have seen that done on You Tube too.

I wonder if there are any London clinics that'll do this as I fear going through the nhs will be near impossible.

I had a hysteroscopy in Athens under GA so they could potentially treat any issues, remove tissue and take biopsies etc (I had a fair bit of cutting away of scar tissue) and they wanted to dilate my cervix to help with smoother transfers in future. In the UK on the NHS they would normally do a hysteroscopy without GA and potentially a biospy. Most women tolerate this well however if they are looking to remove tissue then I would think this wouldnt be possble if you were awake.xx

Fingerscrossed38 profile image
Fingerscrossed38 in reply toCinderella5

And can I ask what your Athens clinic charged?

I just feel overwhelmed with the costs adding up for each procedure. Everything is private but nothing comes from any of these tests or procedures. I still end up with "normal" results and "unexplained" diagnoses. It's sickening

At the time my hysteroscopy under GA would have been €1000 however I had a whole reem of blood tests done at the same time and loads of biopies so check for hidden C etc- the chicago bloods and I paid €1950. I do remember when I enquired about a hysteroscopy in this country it would have been pretty expensive! Its scary the amount of money that you can spend on add ons!xx

Fingerscrossed38 profile image
Fingerscrossed38 in reply toCinderella5

Gosh that is what I must have spent on the Chicago tests alone! I didn't realise Athens was so much cheaper! Thanks for replying xx

when they say most they mean 3 out of 4 i know 3 women that have PTSD because of botched outpatient hysteroscopys but they were all menopausal but i know women that have had painful ones that wern,t

Can’t this be done via nhs? Most consultants work nhs & privately.

I have had 2 hysteroscopies both under general anaesthetic- one was with my 2nd lap. If you have any questions feel free to ask me xxx

Hi Fingerscrossed. I f this is to be done privately, then you will have to ask the clinic. If NHS then there shouldn’t be a charge as it is part of the procedure. Hope all goes smoothly for you. Diane

Sorry do you know if you have to be sedated for a Hysteroscopy? I've seen You Tube clips of women having this procedure in -office whereby saline and air is put into the uterus and then a camera to look around and if need be scrap cells away. It is not a hycosy as that is something I've already had done and is done via ultra sound scan flushing liquid through tubes...

My office says they only perform Hysteroscopy under sedation and I just had to know if this is the only option.

Hi. I always advised using sedation for a hysteroscopy. I even preferred ladies to have light sedation with an HSG or HyCoSy procedure. Don’t believe in chancing any discomfort! They will look after you, I’m sure. Diane
