Spotting at 5 weeks - worried

Hi!

I was lucky enough to get a positive last Wednesday after my first IVF cycle. It was a quick strong result and I did a second test on Sunday, which was the same. Today I've woke up to some pink spotting and although I know this doesn't mean the worst Im panicking as Ive been here twice before at around 5 weeks and the end result was miscarriage both times. Im trying to relax and be hopeful but cant help but worry. The spotting is pink and I dont have any cramps but I feel like my boobs aren't as sore as they were.

Im waiting on the clinic phoning me back and I also phoned my GP who told me to take the rest of the week off and rest and to do another test at the weekend. I asked for bloods but he said they wouldn't provide anything more useful than a normal pregnancy test. My clinic also dont offer bloods as standard but Im hopeful this will change when I tell them Im spotting and worrying.

Can anyone share any advice?

Thanks.

xx

So sorry to hear this, it must be so worrying for you. I think given your previous history either the clinic or your GP should be agreeing to check your hcg levels and see if these are rising 48 hrs apart to see what’s going on and hopefully put your mind at rest. I would stress how worried you are and that’s not good anyway, so not fair to leave you that long just to test at home. When I had a mmc I was having positive hpts throughout and for a little while after so not sure how much it would even tell you. Also, given the experience of others on here recently maybe it might be worth pushing your clinic for your progesterone levels to also be checked to see if these are adequate.

Good luck, I’ll be keeping everything crossed for you 💕 💕 xx

Thank you for your reply. My clinic phoned back and Im now on my way to see them for some bloods. I assume these will be re-done on Friday. I'll mention the progesterone to them too. I think my spotting is getting lighter so hoping that im panicking for nothing. xx

Pleased to hear they’ve agreed to do the bloods. Take some deep breaths and remember this is most probably nothing as spotting is really common in early pregnancy, but least you’ll have a little reassurance that all is ok. Sending loads of positive energy 💖 🌈 xx

Thank you so much! Thats my bloods done and they'll phone with results tonight. Depending on results they might need to see me on Friday again.

Sadly things seem to be getting a little bit heavier and the pink has turned to brown. Still no cramps though so trying to keep positive and believe in my wee embryo! xxx

Hopefully your hcg will double. 25% women bleed in pregnancy with happy outcomes. Try to rest 🌻

Thank you. My clinic have just phoned to say my HCG is over 5000 so they dont need to re check me on Friday. It sounds positive to me and I feel a weight has been lifted but now Im wondering why they dont need to re-do them. How do they know if they r increasing like they should be? xx

5000 is a strong number....really strong. Rest n enjoy a few silly films n a bar of chocolate pomegranate juice and chick mags. Look forward to good news from you.

Thats good to hear. Im probably being a bit over the top but Ive asked them to retest anyway just to be sure. Waiting to hear back to see if they will let me. xxx

Yeah I had a re-test today and my HCG is now sitting at 12,000. They're scanning me on Wednesday now as the levels seem pretty high. Another thing for me to worry about. It's a never-ending rollercoaster!

Woweeee!! That’s a great number right? Can high levels be something to worry about?.. or twins maybe?? 🙊 xx

Im not sure. Im just worried about their reasons for bringing my scan forward by two weeks. And google is not my friend as it talks about molar pregnancies as a reason for high hcg but it seems pretty rare. Twins are another possibility!! 🙊
