PCOS success stories and what to expect at the fertility clinic

Hi everyone! New to this!

I have PCOS and have been trying to have a baby. I have been trying for more than over 2 years with no luck at all.

I would love to hear some success stories on your journey if you also have PCOS.

I also have my first appointment with the fertility consultant this Monday and I'm full of nerves! what should I expect? I have already had all my tests and so has my partner. Will they start me on any treatment on this visit or purely talk about my test results?

Thank you!!! =)

Hello

I am a fellow PCOS sufferer and although I haven't been succesful yet (currently in my first IVF round) I can definitely provide some clarity about what may happen during your first appointments. My first piece of advice is to get a notebook! You get bamboozled with loads of numbers and information and then at the end the doctor will ask if you have any questions and if you are anything like me your brain will be so full of new info you won't be able to remember the questions to ask. I tend to write down what the doc told me in the notebook as well as any questions I have.

As I was resonably young (30) when I first got referred to the clinic, they started me on letrozole which should induce ovulation and the doctors seemed fairly confident that was going to do the trick. I also am a healthy weight and my partner had no issues with his sperm analysis. Unfortunately despite 6 months worth of treatment my body did not want to ovulate. I'm now mid stimming injections in my first IVF round.

I'm sure lots of ladies on here will have more advice as well as success stories!

Good luck at your appointment!!

xx

Thank you so much for replying I love to hear back everything as for a long while I felt really alone in having PCOS. that's a good idea to take a notebook as I always leave thinking 'what did he say about .... again?' lol.

I wish you all the luck in the world and hope your IVF is successful!.

I'm 26 years old! did they start the medication on your first visit with them? or do you have to wait for that too?

Thank you =) xxx

Exactly!! It’s so handy having it all in one place. I actually carry my notebook with me everywhere as questions occur or you read something you want to refer back too etc.

I needed to get the HSG, and my partner needed his sperm analysis first before medication was started. I saw that you have already done all of this. So it’s definitely more likely, but obviously it completely depends on your clinics protocols.

Thanks for wishing me luck, I definitely need all I can get!

I have pcos and have been trying for 2 and half years. Age 30, partner 31. Both of us are it a healthy weight and both very active. Diagnosed with PCOS jan 2018 and was Referred to fert specialist towards end of last year and had more tests, blood etc and then they put me on clomid for 6months. So far I have ovulated every month on clomid and got first BFP on 3rd month..:Ended in MC unfortunately. I am now on 6th and final round of clomid... I had apt last week and my doc has said IVF is next step for us. I am waiting on letter confirming this. Think the wait is going to be long!😢

I assume they will prescribe something to help you ovulate clomid or something else, depending on your issue x x

So sorry to hear about your MC. I hope this last round of Clomid works for you, you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I really hope this happens for me, the yearning feeling to birth a child is an emotional one and I know that is something we have in common along with a lot of other women and gents on here.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me. Ill give an update on Monday as to what happens if you like!

Hi!!!

I too have PCOS, my fertility journey started 3.5 years ago. The first 2 years we weren't given anything then we moved to 6 months of clomid which was unsuccessful, then 1 month of tamoxifen also unsuccessful (even though successfully ovulated each month), then in March this year they tried ovulation drilling, and finally last week we got the go ahead to go forward for IVF and our NHS funding has just been submitted so we are hoping to be referred in the coming weeks!

Each person can be different however!

I can say that recently I have been following keto diet along with upping my vitamins and antioxidants in addition to acupuncture and I really think that has something to do with my spot on FSH result as my periods used to be 2/3days and now 7 days!!

Good luck and keep going!
