Follow up appointment following miscarriage @6+3😖

You wouldn’t believe I walked into the consultants office today and he was excited and ready to do my viability scan..🤭😵 I bursted into tears when I realised what was going on.

I then explained there was no longer a pregnancy etc etc... he was so apologetic as he genuinely didn’t know what had happened and there was no notes on my files.

My last conversation with the nurse prior to this appointment I notified her about what happened... she told me she would update my notes 📝 so exactly what happened today wouldn’t happen... How insensitive?

I’m quite annoyed tbh😒

Anyway moving forward... I’ve been referred to have Thyroid and NK testing done before my next transfer. first I have heard of it but he seemed to be convinced that this could possibly be the cause of my miscarriage.

He was pleased that I actually did fall pregnant and think this will happen again but he may need to adjust my medication based on my NK and Thyroid results.

Just thought I would update you all as I haven’t heard/read any posts regarding these tests.

If you had these done what extra meds was prescribed? Was you able to have a healthy pregnancy?

Hi lovely, I'm sorry you went through that it sounds awful. I too have a thyroid condition that I thought was the cause of my first miscarriage, after falling pregnant this time my meds were adjusted and I'm now nearly 11 weeks and all seems to be going well. I really hope that this is the case for you as well x

I really wish this is the case with me as I’m so desperate for answers... i don’t want a repeat of what we just went through.

I definitely think it’s the not knowing thats driving me crazy.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.. I hope all continues to go well x

Awe I’m so sorry for your loss... why can’t they be a bit more cautious when dealing with such sensitive situations, I was so annoyed as I said... and thought to myself I’m actually paying for this service. Really caught me off guard as I ended up forgetting half the questions I had in mind to ask. x

Yeah you’d think there would be a procedure in place. ☹️

I'm so sorry you had to experience this, I had a similar situation with the hospital I had told them I'd had a miscarriage and they still sent me an appointment letter for my 12 week scan, I cried my eyes out!!

I had a chicago blood test which tests fir everything but also includes NK cells, results were really high so I was put on high dose steroids and had intralipids and I got a BFP on Monday. This was my 4th transfer,1st ended in a MMC and the doctor thinks it was due to my immune issues.

Wishing you the very best of luck xx

Oh brilliant congratulations on your BFP... wishing you a healthy 9 months 🤗

I’m really sorry this happened to you. After lots of implantation failure and miscarriages, I had the Chicago tests done which found I had immune issues. They treated it with steroids, intralipids (one before ET and one on BFP) and a Neupogen flush before ET. After 8 failures before the immune treatment, we finally got a BFP on attempt #9 using an immune protocol. Wishing you all the very best with your next round. X

You guys have given me hope.. Thankyou for sharing your experience x

Hi M.,

I'm so sorry you went through this. They don't know how must these things affect us!

My clinic tested thyroid before I started IVF. Everything was fine. They also tested it after the BFP, but I still miscarried in mars @6w after FET#1.

I'm currently @9w after FET#2. Around 5w they found my levels were a little low. This time we put 2 embryos and they said it's common to happen with twins. I'm taking Levothyroxine 25 micrograms per day.

Hope you get your rainbow baby! Good luck! XX

I am sorry to hear about your experience. With regards to thyroid, you need to push for a full thyroid panel tests including thyroid antibodies. Your TSH level before trying to conceive should be lower than 2.5. have tour clinic didn't test this before? Xx

FSH was tested before treatment but doctor has only required thyroids and nk cells due to our recent miscarriage. I’m hoping the results gives us some clarity as to why we may have miscarried and hopefully prevent it from reoccurring x

I am really sorry to hear that, they should have tested your TSH as a bear minimum before starting the treatment. You may want to read about thyroid and pregnancy on the Thyroid UK or British Thyroid Foundation pages. Anything higher than 2.5 would require medication Levothyroxine to bring the levels down this can take weeks.

Also important to test antibodies because if positive it means you have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis which is an autoimmune disease and they need to know this as very important to monitor in early pregnancy.

Women with Hashimoto's have problems with conceiving and increases chances of miscarriage. I do have Hashimoto's and I constantly worry about my pregnancy and I am under strict consultant care and blood tested every 4 weeks.

I feel very passionate about this topic and I am so sad every time I hear someone doesnt not get tested properly before TTC. GPs are useless and they think the range of up to 4.6 is fine in ttc, but it's not. Their lack of knowledge is shocking. I had to push my NHS IVF clinic too for tests. In the end I went to a private clinic in Poland did all blood tests and came back with a diagnosis.

I wish you all good luck hun xxx

You’ve given me more information than the doctor. Thankyou

In my situation I reckon it was assumed my tubes was my only problem as I have already had a healthy pregnancy albeit 10 years ago.

The issues with my tubes have come to light throughout the past 7 years ttc, I’ve also read tubal blockages can cause your NK cells to attack a pregnancy. This is what I think I should have been told or tested for prior to treatment.

The TSH can be done on the NHS so I’m currently awaiting a referral from my GP but the NHS does not offer NK cell testing so I have made an appointment to have this done privately next week.

Thanks again for the information you’ve provided I will do some further research today.

Best of luck to you wherever you are on your journey x

That is really awful, your clinic should know better. I hate hearing how often things happen like this to women. A nurse at my clinic asked me how old my baby was during my next transfer after my miscarriage! My clinic and GP refused to prescribe thyroxine even though my levels are above the optimal. I think most likely my previous miscarriages are due to chromosomal problems with the embryos. I hope you get a treatment plan that you are happy to move forward with xx

Hi Mushy, Im sorry I missed your post....what an awful experience for you! Glad that you are having your thyroid tested. I had mine done before treatment which was fine but as Ive gotten older (it runs on my mums side of the family) mine was just a little high at 4.96 but too high for conception so I got put on levothyroxine. Ive already had NK cell testing and although it didnt show much I asked to take prednisolone anyway and cons agreed I could try it and alongside an extra day of progesterone....we've now had 2 BFPs but no baby yet. We have recently discovered that in my last BFP that my progesterone levels are far too low and it makes me wonder if that was the reason for my previous spontaneous miscarriage which of course we'll never know but going to be doing injections next time alongside pessaries and clinic will check my levels on transfer day. Just something else you might want to discuss with your consultant for future cycles.xx

Hi Cinderella

I have previously replied to this msg but it seems to have not sent... annoying as it was a longggg one and I can’t remember exactly what I wrote now..😩

I’ve had to delete and redownload the app twice.

Anyway I hope your well as I know you’ve had your own heartbreak to deal with.

Since writing this post I have now received the NK cells results... which made absolutely no sense to me lol just a load of numbers. Consultant has emailed to confirm NK cells are elevated. I haven’t received thyroid results as yet from the NHS🙄

Consultant has suggested a Intralipid infusion and prednisolone for future treatments.

Have you ever had the Intralipid infusion? From what I’ve seen/read online it needs to go into a vein... I’m guessing this is something they would have to do at the clinic.

Even after my MC my progesterone levels was very high so I don’t think he would prescribe pessaries as well as the two injections per day but I’ll still ask.

Now just waiting for prescription and appointment for consent forms.

Btw one more thing.... my cycles are usually 25 days long, counting from the day of mc my period came 25 days after. Consultant said expect period 6 weeks later...

although I’m glad my body is seemly getting back to normal Im still left wondering if that is normal or too early.

Sorry to be a pain with my questions, I know your not a doctor but you just seem to be so knowledgable. x

Oh I hate when that happens!! In all honesty I think its good that they have discovered something that they can work with. Its all the more frustrating when they cant find reasons for things. I have done intralipids....its an intravenous drip (looks like a milky fluid) and its supposed to dampen down the immune system and yes they do this in a clinic, its a mix of fat amulsion, soya and egg yolk believe it or not! Ive had intralipids for 4 transfers and the last 2 added in prednisolone and although they didnt last I got 2 BFP's so defo think prednisolone is worth trying and its great your consultant is on board. There probably isnt any need to increase your progesterone if it already high, mine was really low at only 19 nmol/l. Hopefully wont be too long until you get your thyroid results back. There isnt any real right or wrong as to when your period arrives back. Some people find they snap back to normal and other take longer, usually depends on how quickly your hCG normalises. Once mine got to normal my period arrived around 4 wks later and its looking like it might be the same for me this time. Good luck with your next cycle, your clinic sound really good!!xx
