Progesterone injections or pessaries?

Just had my follow up appointment after our first failed cycle.

As expected there was no known reason - the embryo and my lining were good and the transfer went well. Just bad luck or an unviable embryo I guess.

We were offered progesterone injections rather than pessaries for the next cycle, but we’d have to pay for these (we’re otherwise NHS funded). He said there are recent studies showing them to be more effective.

I’m happy to try them but was wondering if there’s any point. I didn’t bleed until I stopped taking the cyclogest so surely it did it’s job?

Any advice? X

I’ve had a failed cycle also and they want me to do the pessaries , injections and tablets next time round . I was in the same boat my lining was great the embryo was great and the transfer and straight forwards it just didn’t work .

Really sucks when there’s no obvious reason doesn’t it?

Do you know when you’ll be going again? X

Yeah it does suck . I’m aiming at August. I didn’t get any nhs funding they said no to me so I have to save up for another transfer. When do you start again? X

The funding issue is so unfair. Good luck for August.

I started a medicated fet yesterday, was not expecting that when I went in for the appointment!

Good luck. If they advise the injections I’d go for it . I’m going to do them next time round x

I've had a few failed cycles. This time around my consultant added in injections as well as pessaries. There is evidence that injections are more easily absorbed. The only issue is found is that prontogest is impossible to by via other pharmacies so we've just had to order through clinic.

Thanks for your reply. Just realised mine is the same - should have said in addition to because they gave me cyclogest.

That’s interesting to know, I wonder if I can order through my clinic as they’re NHS. Was yours private?

I think it's just the prontogest version that is tricky. I'm private and I don't think the NHS prescribe it. I'm sure you'd be prescribed an alternative brand that is easier to source ☺

Hi, on my first fresh cycle, I used pessaries. It wasn't successful ☹️ I was always concerned about having low progesterone from some earlier blood tests, even though doctors said it was within range. I've just had my FET and used pessaries and daily Lubion injections. 🤞Will hope they work, as they can be costly. I was able to buy them privately from Asda pharmacy which were much cheaper than clinic prices. All the best xx

Sorry about your failed cycle, it’s such a difficult time.

I’ve decided to go with the injections so will try Asda, I’ve heard good things about their fertility meds prices!

When is your otd? Wishing you all the success the time around! Xx
