Egg collection - sedation

Hi All,

Had my egg collection yesterday which was put back two days because not all my follicles had grown enough so did 14 days on stimms. Because it was delayed i had to go to a different clinic and have sedation instead of general anaesthetic which was fine as i was fully asleep. However i felt extremely nauseous after and couldn't keep anything down for the rest of the day yesterday, do you think this could be a possible reaction to one of the drugs?

Only had 3 eggs collected and got the call today that two fertilised and now we wait, feeling so anxious! Disappointed i only had 3 as i was on both gonal f and menopur but im hoping because there weren't that many they may be of better quality! 🙏

Hi hun I am not sure about the reaction but just to let you know we had 2 eggs collected like you i was kept stimming... I had 14 folicles to begin with but only 3 went big enough. both of our eggs are doing well we have a 6 and 8 cell at day 3 with a 5 day transfer tomorrow. I wanted to tell you to give you hope I have been so anxious at every stage thinking we will lose an egg and only have one of poor quality. I realise im extremley lucky to have both decent quality. all the very best xx

Hello! It sounds like a normal reaction after being put under. I didn't feel like this, but they did tell me I may after ec. Don't worry about it! Good luck with your embryos 🍀

Hi there,

Yes it is a normal reaction unfortunately- I get awful nausea whether I’ve had general anaesthetic or sedation. If they gave you another painkiller shot before you left that could also contribute.

I have had nausea after having GA before and told them that and they said thats good to know so i thought they would give me some anti-sickness stuff but i felt ok when i was there, it was around 30 minutes after leaving, it kicked in, feeling slightly better today ☺️

Ah glad you’re on the up!

I think also it’s such an anxious/exciting build up, after a few really physically demanding weeks. It all feeds in. Try to drink lots of fluids and some bland food (I sound like my mother now 😁)

I think it’s normal, I really bad nausea after egg collection as well. But I felt much better the next day. Try and take it easy for the next couple days. Wishing you all the best!

Hi rose2700, I’ve had 2 collections under sedation at the same clinic. 1st time round I was absolutely fine afterwards. Friday week before last I have the 2nd one and about 1/2hr after I felt ultra nauseous. Tried so hard not to but ended up 🤮 at the clinic, and again a further 4 times as soon as I got in the door at home!! No idea why I was so rough after this collection though. Baffled!

I hope you’re feeling better now anyway. Good luck with the next few days of embryology calls and hopefully a 2ww!! Xx

Thats weird that you reacted differently each time. Its a horrible feeling isnt it x

Heya, I threw up on the way home after egg collection then slept I had sedation and clinic said it was probably a side effect of drugs xx

Hi, thanks for replying. Yeh thats what i thought it must be, weird how our body reacts to these things! X
