Feeling Heartbroken

After egg retrieval they were able to get 12 eggs, 8 matured and 7 fertilized and just got the news only 1 embryo made it to blastocyst stage. I feel so down. I was really hoping to have more embryos to work with.

Hi there, whilst this may be upsetting because of your good numbers, you still have a blastocyst to transfer and are still in with a good chance that this could work. Please stay positive. Have they graded you blastocyst? I suppose from your 7 embryos you would expect 2-3 to make it to day 5, and maybe this is something your clinic could advise you on at follow up, should this cycle not work. I only got 1 egg on my last cycle (3rd cycle) which fertilised but then didn't really do anything and I had nothing to transfer. You have a blastocyst and are still in with a chance for this to work. And how amazing if it does. Good luck with transfer and the 2ww xx

Yes they graded it Good AA which is the best grade possible. We just hoping we had more to work with. I'm from the US and its really expensive to do IVF here nothing is covered by insurance. Is it the same there in UK?

That is an amazing grade, so long as everything else is good, you have great chances. Hopefully this one sticks and it will all be worth it. I self funded my first cycle which was extremely expensive at a London clinic, it was the extra blood tests, meds that cost a lot. I've also paid for diagnostic testing and other add ons and I have a blood clotting issue which each time the meds are expensive which I have to pay for. I did get 2 cycles on the NHS (which I had to fight for and took around 5 years from start to end of the process). Unfortunately, I will have to pay goining forward as none have been successful and I have none frozen. I know we expect more, we hear of others with great numbers but by the sound of it, you have great quality xx

I know the feeling ! Currently 2dp5dt it’s driving me insane didn’t have anything to freeze and this is our one and only go as we can’t afford to go through this again so I was desperate for something to freeze fingers crossed 🤞 we both get the bfp we deserve xxx

Oh dear, that puts a lot of pressure on this one little blasto but hopefully it's your golden egg!! It would be nice to have a backup or two but who knows, you may well be successful on your first transfer. Mine stuck and the grade wasn't as good as yours so definitely cause to be hopeful there. Hope the wait doesn't drag too much and you get some lovely news at the end of it xxx

Thank definitely a long journey ahead. Any tips you ate and took during pregnancy or after implantation? I hear pinneaple is really good. But other than that?

My Dr told me not to do anything that would 'disturb' the uterus so no pilates, no sex - but gentle exercise to keep blood flowing. I eat quite a lot of pineapple anyway so I probably ate some but can't specifically remember. Took a pregnancy vitamin, ate well, tried to relax (ha!)...

To be honest, it's pretty much up to the embryo now. If it's viable it will develop. If sadly it's not viable it won't develop or won't get very far and there's really very little you can do either way. So, like much of this process, things are out of your control which is scary but also means you shouldn't stress too much about what you should or shouldn't be doing. Best of luck hon, keep us updated xxx

Sorry that you only have one left to transfer. There are only a few lucky couples that get one to transfer and some to freeze. We all tend to lose a few through the different stages. Your clinic may be able to provide info on what they thought went wrong. Ours was put down to egg quality as I was 38 at the time I did my treatment. It sounds like you have a good quality embryo there so fingers crossed for you. Hugsxx
