I’m interested in knowing if any one else experienced an infection after egg collection. I had quite a bit of pain which I thought was related to cysts but on a visit to A&E after a weekend of pain, my bloods showed I had a high infection. I ended up having a laparotomy last week to remove a fairly large abcess and my right ovary and tube were removed too as they’d also become infected. Never did I expect this to be an outcome from egg collection, especially as I was already on antibiotics.
If you’ve been through this how long was recovery, and how long before you were able to move to your FET? Thanks.

Hi Bluetop. So sorry to read this, and fortunately it rarely happens. The antibiotic you were prescribed, obviously wasn't sufficient to cover the infection you had. However, they usually prescribe what is known as a broad spectrum antibiotic to cover most common infections. The fact that you ended up having a laparotomy means you will need approximately 3 months to recover from the surgery, then providing your periods return normally you should be able to go ahead with FET. Keeping everything crossed for when you are better and able to proceed. Good luck! Diane
