IVF after open myomectomy

Hi ladies, I'm new on here and looking for some advice, would like to hear your thoughts. Been TTC for five years and found had two large fibroids (one 10cm and the other 5cm) missed in initial vaginal scan but caught in second. I've just had an open myomectomy ( large C-section like incision) . Due for IVF in a month and a half. My tummy is still a bit swollen and my scar hurts - I'm worried there won't be enough room for ovaries to swell too! I have a high amh so they said I should expect my ovaries to swell quite a lot. Has anyone had IVF three months post op? How did it go? Sorry for the long post!

I would check with your doctor, because my friend is having the exact same operation and she was told not to get pregnant for 12 months after the operation because she would have “c section womb weakness” which could impact the pregnancy. Maybe you could have the embryos frozen and transferred after you recover fully? X

I had a myomectomy in November 2016 and was advised not to TTC for 3 months to ensure it had healed internally.

I actually had my first cycle of IVF 15 months post myomectomy (due to further surgery for endometriosis). That cycle failed but my second was successful and my baby boy is nearly 9 weeks old 💙 I had to have a planned C section due to internal scarring from the myomectomy, but it all went quite smoothly.

Good luck. 🍀🍀🍀

I did an open myomectomy and was told to wait for 5 months before trying to get pregnant. I did my myomectomy in February and my IVF in November of the same year. I was told if you get pregnant less than 5 months post myomectomy you risk uterine rapture.

Thank you for replying! Hope everything goes well for your friend. My surgery went really well, so it's not all scary stories! We are egg retrieval and then a FET in October. Didn't want to miss IVF slot on NHS - hopefully will be long enough to heal x

Hi Infertilemyrtle. Well 3 months should be quite long enough for you to recover after such surgery, so hopefully you will be able to go for your IVF cycle. Try not to worry about it too much as they will look after you. Fingers crossed for success. Thinking of you. Diane
