Hi Ladies had my first fertility appointment yesterday and was told I have a fibroid on uterine wall which could be impacting implantation and low AMA and egg reserve. Dr said she has seen women get pregnant with similar AMA. They have offered me a myomectomy which would delay IVF. But have put me on list for IVF to start in April. I feel so overwhelmed any advice would be amazing x
myomectomy Or wait for IVF: Hi Ladies... - Fertility Network UK
myomectomy Or wait for IVF
Hello!
I had a submucosal fibroid (which sounds like the one you have, where it affects the cavity and hinders implantation). My doctor was big on doing myomectomy first, then IVF. Yes, it did delay the cycle but only by 3 months. You want everything in good shape before embarking on the IVF journey.
Wishing you the best xx
Hey lovely, I had the same thing and in the September had my IVF scheduled for April. I had the myomectomy in March, pushing back my IVF til end of June beginning of July but could only have egg collection. The recovery for the procedure before they let you get pregnant is 6 months. We didn't want to wait that long so after three months they would let me have my eggs out, grow our embryos and then freeze all. Then later had a frozen embryo transfer. If I were you I'd ask them for a clear timeline. How long was the wait for the operation? Can you have a freeze all cycle in recovery like I did? The physical recovery itself is tough (6 weeks but 6 months in total). I don't regret it as I wanted to go into Ivf with the best chances but it was a lot of time to wait and that also has a mental toll. We are now 12 wks pregnant on our second transfer. DM me if you have any questions, happy to answer any. There wasn't much out there when I was researching either so know it can feel pretty difficult to make a decision!
Hi,
I was told I had a fibroid when we had our first fertility appointment. My fibroid was quite large though, 8cm. They said there is not much evidence fibroids are a cause of infertility (we have unexplained infertility) or if it would hinder implantation, but I was unlikely to carry full term if we were to get pregnant- risk of a late miscarriage was present I was told, so I felt I did not have much choice with what I did first. I had my myomectomy last September. Recovery was 6-8 weeks and then I had to wait 3 months to let my uterus heal completely before we could start anything.
Obviously no one knew we would then get a pandemic - so we are still waiting to start. I am hoping we are very close now and just waiting an appointment next week to discuss protocol I think.
I do not regret my choice, as I needed this fibroid out regardless of IVF really. I did not realise how much it impacted on my life - I was symptomatic with heavy periods, pain and low energy - which I now know was cos I was anaemic.
I can’t advise regarding your decision, because it is yours to make and your circumstances might be different to mine, but hopefully some more information might trigger questions you need to ask! I was really, really nervous I remember that complications would happen, such a low risk, but still there. Good advise above about asking more about a timeline perhaps! Or even if you could freeze eggs prior to surgery.
I wish you all the best 💛
