Poor egg quality

Hello ladies,

So I did two Ivf cycles over the last 5 weeks. Got a total of 18 embryos however only 2 of them made it To day 5 AB quality blast. All other embryos made it to day 5 but only stayed as morulas.

My clinic is attributing this failure to my egg quality. I have an amh of 30.8 pmol and an Fsh of 6

Im so devastated and sad.

Could my two little embryos still pass Pgs even tough I gave crappy eggs?

Thoughts please xxx

So sorry, it sounds like you’ve had a really rough time of it lately. Are your clinic going to grow your embryos on to day 6 to see if any of them develop further? Would you consider not doing PGS and just transferring your embryos?

Hello , Thank you for replying. :)

Embryos were grown to day 6 but still did not make blastocysts they ony remained at compacted morulas. I paid for a test of 8 embryos upfront as my clinic does not allow paying fro PGS per embryo, so I decided will proceed with PGS of my two embryos . I am travelling outside my country to do IVF and this is making things even harder.

What I am mostly frustrated form is that I paid for a blood test a the start of my treatment, which will supposedly revaels cause of infertility for me an my husband. hover 2 Ivf cyclese after and 6 weeks waiting I still have not gotten my result. Iam really frustrated at my clinic but I am not getting any answers from them . Unfortunately to pay the clinic a visit I need to travel .

Its so hard, I feel so alone and depressed . My husband is supportive but can't understand what i feel . He feels we should just move on if none on our embryos pass PGS .

Ah ok I’m sorry they didn’t make it on day 6 either. I see why you want to go ahead with PGS as you’ve already invested in it so you may as well. I will probably be having PGS for my next egg collection too. That seems a long time to wait for blood test results? Was it karyotyping? I’ve heard that can take longer to come back but I’ve not had that yet. We are unexplained infertility and it’s very hard to not know the reason why. It is very tough and you are right that nobody really understands unless they’ve been through it.

Yes I did Karyotype and Panda test. I started off as being diagnosed with blocked Tubes. My Amh and fsh are OK so no one ever mentioned egg quality. Each step I make I feel I go 2 steps backward. I'm a very positive person over all but this time I can't be positive. The doctor still beleives that the embryos can still be normal so. I'm hoding on to that little hope at the moment xxxxx

It’s ok to not feel positive all the time. Really hope your embryos are nice and healthy and implant well for you xx

I have the same thought. Would you consider transferring one or two without testing? Or transfer one and test the other perhaps.

I thought about just doing the transfer, but I cant go through an other hearthbrake of a negative or a possible miscarriage. How it stands I would like to know if my embryos are viable.

The clinic I went to, to increase number of embryos to send or testing advice to do an other IVF back to back . The second cycle was a complete disaster . I feel I am being let down by my clinic . I only get to speak to my coordinator an dafter a lot of begging have I manged to receive a mail from the doctor saying my eggs are bad

in reply to Lorita1984

It’s a difficult decision- I would press to speak to a doctor to advise you on what is best to do. Really wish you all the best with it xx

Don’t forget it takes 2 to make an embryo. I wondered if your husband had DNA fragmentation test? Sometimes it’s sperm quality that affects the embryo

Best wishes

I have been pushing for that test after all this . I still believe the sperm did play a role as my embryos all passed day 3 and reached day 5 still dividing. Sometimes I feel the clinic just gives an answer to have said something. I will be looking into second opinions before giving up on our dream xxx

Definitely get a second opinion. And you’ve got some in the freezer too which is great. I know some ladies on here have done ivf with eggs being fertilised half by partners sperm and half donor sperm. This may be worth consideration too.

Ivf is a very hard journey but I have learnt that it’s worth asking questions and investigating all your options. Wishing you luck and strength to get through all this xx

Hi Lorita, Im not going to pretend I understand what you are going through. Life is so cruel and it’s awful that so many women have to go through this. I also had ivf with poor quality eggs and poor sperm quality. I only had 1 survived blastocysts. That 1 made my beautiful boy. Sadly, my son didn’t survive due to sypsis sending me in premature labour. I never believed I would get pregnant but after holding my perfect boy, he give me hope and I’m trying to hold on to fact Ivf will work again for me. Try not to loose hope and try and look after yourself as best you can. xx

Hi Lorita

How very frustrating for you.

It seems very strange. You had a lot of eggs. Your AMH isn't so low or your FSH. Do you know the follicle sizes? My consultant realised that with me I need massive follicles to produce decent quality eggs. My first two rounds we only ended up with 2 each time despite egg numbers. The lack of maturity affected the eggs. Fast forward to round 3 and he pushed us on and my biggest follicle was around 24mm with the others not too far behind and ended up with 7 good quality eggs and some to freeze. My AMH is only 8. This made such a big difference. I take lots of egg quality vits too such as DHEA and Melantonin and L'argenine amongst others!

Good luck, I hope your little 2 make it (you do only need a couple after all!) xx

Unfortunatley the clinic I choose has a one size fits all approach. The last time I was scanned was day 8. The follicle sizes were all over the place small and big. In day 6 I had a dominant follicle measuring 2.2mm. I asked about it but got told its normal. I beleive it was a cyst. No blood tests are done during cycle and my Las scan was day 8. Doc set retreival for day 13 and never scanned me again. I totally feel the clinic failed me. I paid them good money and got nothing in return

Till today I still await a blood test supposedly done to dedect issues with us. I paid eur 1600 for it, but they are ig ignoring my mails. I feel its time I should write to the head. But I have 2 frozen embryos at their clinic so I'm holding back a bit

Were the vitamins prescribed by your doctor? I was prescribed nothing. Could I just buy and take them?

With my clinic they don't scan until day 10, and do bloods then scan as needed after (think I had one more). It's such a nerve wracking time. One size fits all isn't really what you want from a clinic though, but difficult if you have some frozen with them.

My consultant didn't prescribe but recommended the following so I just purchased them but to be honest at 30 your AMH sounds good.

Anyway I took DHEA 25g x 3 per day, Melatonin 3g before bed, L'argenine, Vit E, B and D, Ubiquinol and Omega 3. DHEA and Melatonon were for my age (40) and AMH which was 8 so you might not really need these. I think these helped me, but the protocol also was the game changer.

DHEA and melatonin aren't readily available but biovea.com send Europe wide (I should be on commission with them for the recommendations, ha ha, but they are a good source!).

I think it would be worth you asking them what your follicle sizes were on day of collection. If a lot were still very small it could point to the same issue as me. Clinics love to blame our egg quality and not their approach (which has a direct impact on our egg quality!!!).

I am hoping your little 2 eggs are the ones that make it for you and will keep my fingers and toes crossed xx
