FET Treatment

Hi there

Developed OHSS after my egg collection, so had to wait till I was better & will be getting a FET.

Can anyone tell me what the usual procedure is & maybe how long it takes before they do the transfer?

Thanks everyone

Hi Leli. Usually they will leave you for a couple of months, maybe a bit longer to settle back down after suffering OHSS. More often than not they will do the transfer on a natural cycle which involves little or no drugs. You would still need the progesterone pessaries afterwards. Your little embryos are quite safe waiting to return to where they belong. Good luck. Diane

Hi Diane, I am due to start treatment on the 15th of this month. Just wondered how long from then, untill they transfer & what the medication process is?

Hi Leli. If your periods are regular, then a natural cycle method will involve telephoning your patient coordinator on the first working day after Day 1 of your period. He/she will then advise you when to commence the Clearplan Urine Kit or daily blood tests to detect ovulation. You will have an ultrasound to confirm the development of your follicles. The transfer of the embryos will be timed for two or three days after ovulation, depending on the age and development of your frozen embryos. If your periods are a little haphazard, then the second option may be applied, which is to give you some drugs to “dampen down” your natural hormones and trigger a “false” period. I would think that you would then be given progesterone to help prepare your womb lining for the embryos. Clinics have different ways of doing FET, and I’m sure it will be discussed with you. Good luck! Diane

I also had this..I had to have 2 periods then I was given oral medication to take (progernova) as well as the progesterone pessaries. I was scanned after being on meds for a few days-week (I think) and then they scanned me again a few times to check my lining was okay before going ahead with the transfer.

Good luck x
