Just had my first scan during stims. My last round we got 11 follicles and 7 eggs, which I thought was kind of good for my age 39, AMH 16.8. (its male factor infertility)
This time round they've ramped up my stims and when I asked how many more eggs they're hoping for this round, his words were "as many as possible". He also mentioned 15 being the number they want no matter what age.
Everything I seem to have read online seems to state that at age 39, higher numbers doesn't equate to success. I feel like their focus is on quantity, when i thought it should be quality..
Has anyone else experienced similar with their clinic?xx

Hi Molly. I’m afraid I agree, it is a quality game, with numbers being an asset decent sized follicles should contain eggs after the trigger shot, but don’t know the quality until collected. If you get seven eggs or more, then fingers crossed there will be some quality ones to fertilise. Good luck. Diane
Just had egg collection today. 13 follicles, but only 5 eggs. Feeling very confused as they ramped up my stims in order to get as many eggs as poss. But we got more eggs on first round (7 and 11 follicles) with less stims. Not feeling hopeful x
Thank you for your kind wishes. Yesterday we found out that all 5 were total fertilisation failure. We had 100% fertilisation with 7 eggs first round (ICSI both times. Feeling very confused and devastated x
Hi, I am 39 and I did a round on NHS in September '23 and I was told I only had 2/3 follicles as the scans. I was on Bemfola 375 then upped to 450 last couple of days. They managed to get 7 eggs, 5 fertilised, 2 transferred, none to freeze. I got a positive test but unfortunately I had a MC just before 7wks. We went private in January and I was on 450 Menopur from the start. First scan it showed 17 follicles, which I couldn't believe. Obviously I know not all we'll be mature but I was just delighted to have a better result at that stage. We got 9 eggs, 8 mature, 7 fertilised. 3 made it to day 5. I transferred unfortunately it didn't work. I've 2 in freezer and currently prepping for my first ever FET. I have my scan on Monday and hopefully have transfer following week. My amh first time around was 4.6, this time it was 8.4. I changed up my vitamins and included more healthy drinks too which I think has helped me. I also have an endometrioma in my dominant left ovary which they say wasn't an issue, but I find it does cause some discomfort whilst doing stims.
hi, did you do a short or long protocol? I was 40 and I think had 450 memopur? I remember it being the higher dose stims. On the long down regulation cycles I got 9 eggs and 7 eggs, which resulted in 2 x 5AA blastocysts , both were BFN. Then I did short protocol, same stims and only 3 eggs collected and one fertilised which became my now 2 year old son. I found the short protocol much ‘nicer’ on my body and I think the eggs were better quality even though they were fewer in number. Good luck xx the numbers don’t mean much, you are right that it’s the quality that counts and you will find that right egg xx
thank you for all you lovely replies ladies, it is appreciated. So after long protocol which was extended by a week and upped stimms, we got 5 eggs and just found out none have fertilised (ICSI) we are heartbroken. With our good result first round and my good amh I wish I had put my food down and said I didn’t want the higher stimms that I was never really comfortable with. I think intuition is always right
