AMH levels high... what does this mean?

Hi all,

I have had my test results back from AMH bloods and my reading is 42. They said that this is on the high side but I don't really understand any of it to be honest. Hosptial said they will review treatment for IVF.... we haven't started yet.

Any help to stop me worrying would be great. I cried on the way home from work after getting the voicemail and now feel lost.

My AMH is similar to yours, I’m quite young though and I believe this is good.

I think if your over 35 and your AMH is higher, then it’s likely you have pcos.

If you had a low amh I think that causes issues with having a decent egg reserve xx

Thanks for your reply. I'm 32. How old are you if you don't mind me asking? I'm worried that mine is high for my age. Especially after the clinic said it was on the high side! X

I turned 32 recently. You have a good egg reserve based on your results, mine is in the 40s too.

I’ve conceived and had a baby naturally - just having secondary infertility issues xx

That’s what I have ‘unexplained’. Well, rest assured it’s good news. It means if you have ivf you should get a good number of eggs so good luck xx

I’m 38, 39 in April and mine was 40 something in 2016 and was actually higher last year at 50 something!! I didn’t even think that was possible haha. Don’t worry. It just means that you’ll likely be on a short protocol and lower dose of meds. Your clinic will keep a good eye on you in case of overstimulation xx

AMH is related to Ovarian reserve. I’m 40 and last July mine was 12.9. I’d say at 42 you are doing very well although I wasn’t aware that AMH could be too high as your hospital suggests. I would just ask them what jay means for you and go from there. Good luck xx

I’m 35 today. My AMH is 1.7. I do not have good egg reserve. Currently less than 5 natural follicles. 42 is awesome. Wish you the best of luck with this process.

Hiya, I’m 31 (today🥳) I had very high AMH not sure on the figure, they probably just threw it into conversation like you would understand what they meant like they did with me?! It’s kinda a good thing as you have good egg reserve... I responded well to the meds (too well) because my AMH levels and they had to bring my collection forward by two days as I had so many follicles my ovaries were rubbing together and they lost count at 50, they also changed my trigger meds... anyway I had 21 eggs collected. I’m not sure what high AMH might mean for you as I’m not a doctor, but even though I showed no signs of overstimulation (rapid weightgain, numbness to the limbs) I was advised they couldn’t do a fresh transfer as I could still develop OHSS and a pregnancy would exacerbate the symptoms and leave me very ill. But I was totally looked after by my clinic so at no point was I worried. They may tell you to keep protein levels up and to drink isotonic drinks, only drink to thirst and stay off your feet. Just don’t panic and remember your doctors are professionals and will keep you safe 😊 xxxx
