Norethisterone and Headache

Did anyone had severe headache while on Norethisterone? I have had it for a week and every day I have really strong headaches. The clinic told me to take Paracetamol, I am taking the maximum limit but I still have headaches.

Did anyone have anything similar? If so, did you find something that relieved the pain?

I still have one more week to go but I need to work and the headaches are so strong that I can't really think.

I'm due to start Norethisterone shortly so cant comment personally on the side effects. I know our nurse did mention headaches could be quite common. I know it sounds silly but have you tried increasing your water intake? also if you work on a screen taking short breaks from the screen may help. If all else fails it might be worth mentioning the issue with your employer if they are already aware of your treatment. As they could be more flexible in terms of taking more breaks.

Thank you! I have been taking lots of water, way more than normally. Luckily for the past two days headache have reduced! I am not sure if the body got used to the hormones or what, but not complaining!

Good luck with your treatment, I hope that you don't have any side effects

Thank you :) glad to hear that your doing better now.

Hi, I’ve just finished 20 days on it, which I wasn’t looking forward to, but actually it was fine. I had no side effects thankfully. I appreciate this doesn’t help you, but thought it’s still useful to share experiences similar and not so. I hope you find something to alleviate them. Wishing you luck for your cycle xx

Hi nnhope. As well as the paracetamol, trying drinking extra water, that sometimes helps. All down to upsetting your pituitary gland in the brain. Hope that helps to settle it a bit for you. Good luck! Diane

Thank you! Just knowing for sure that it is nornal does help a bit. I read the potential side effects in the medicine leaflet and got really worry!

I started norethisterone three days ago and I have such a headache too! The last time I had a hormonal headache this bad was on gonal f (high dose). I've got 21 days on it and not looking forward to it.

Thanks for sharing! I got really scared because the headaches were really really strong. Never had it like that. But luckily yesterday I had no headache! I have been taking paracetamol regularly (not waiting for the headache to start before I take it). So I am not sure if the body got used to the hormones or what, but I was dancing and singing for having a whole day without pain!

Today I woke up with some pressure in the head so definately taking paracetamol. I only have 5 more days on Norethisterone to go!

Hope that your headaches reduce soon!
