Hi everyone! We’ve had one failed round of IVF where we only collected one egg, made one embryo and transferred it at day 3 but had a BFN.
This is our second NHS cycle now and has gone better. We’ve decided we’re not going to go on and on with cycles so this is our last shot as it’s the last NHS provided one. We managed to have 7 eggs harvested, 5 fertilised and 4 have made it to blastocyst.
Transfer is booked for tomorrow and I really want to do a double transfer and freeze two. I know it raises the risks of twins but as this is our last shot I really don’t care plus I think the risks are small anyway (doubles the risk but the risk is 1 in 1000, so in real terms makes it 2 in 1000). I would be over the moon with twins, we’ve been trying for nearly 5 years now.
Just wondered everyone’s thoughts about transferring 1 or 2? Has anyone had experienced either? I know clinics try to stop you but I have 4 blastocysts (assuming they all make it) and want to do everything possible to make our baby dream possible so if that means two double transfers or 4 single ones... just want to make the right choice!
Thanks 😊

This is always quite a hot topic and ultimately completely your decision. We are older and have always transferred 2 when we were able to...had them. Our reasoning was similar to yours. Our NHS embryologist was very against putting 2 back and we got quite a stern lecture regarding the risks of mulitple pregnancies which are not to be ignored but you need to do what you feel is right for you. On balanace our consultant abroad always opts for 2 as he feels there is higher success rates of pregnancy. I personally know of 3 ladies that had two put back, 2 of them had singletons and 1 have had twins....however I also know of a lady on here that put 2 back and they both split so they had 4! I have recently had a BFP but wont know how many have taken, if we get that far. Good luck with your decision!xx
We’re just getting ready for a FET and our doctor has recommended putting two back because unfortunately they’re not great quality. We’re at a private clinic though so they seem to have a different viewpoint on things! Good luck with the transfer whatever you decide 😊💕 xxx
We transferred 2 in the hope of improving chances. I'm 39 and in good health so Dr was happy to transfer 2. We did panic a bit when a very high blood test result indicated they might have both stuck - where are we going to put them?!? How the hell are we going to afford this?!? - but scan revealed there's only 1 in there. Basically, if you put 2 in, make sure you're really prepared to get 2 out!!
Thank you! We’re actually excited at the thought of two but one would be a wonderful miracle at this stage too! Congrats on your success 😊 xx
Hi, I had three put back last time as I had three blastos survive and one of them wasnt good enough to freeze... and am 41.. they said there was no real chance of triplets. We got our BFP! Sadly things didnt work out later on but I wouldn't hesitate to put 2 back. Masses of luck xx
Hi I'm due my first FET transfer over the weekend and am going with 2 back in. I've had 3 failed fresh cycles, 1 with one embryo transferred and 2 with 2 embryos transferred and am hoping FET will be better for me. Aware of the risks of twins but that doesn't daunt us as much as another failed cycle!! We will have one embryo left after this double transfer so seeing that as a backup in case :S Go with your gut! x
Hi hunny, we were led by our embryologist, I’m 38 and they recommend we put two back in, I’m currently 7dp3dt and a little nervous they may both make it, but if they did then I always think things happen for a reason and we would cope. Apparently statistically even with two in there there is more chance of one making it instead of two. Good luck with your decision 😘 x.
I think is your decision to make, but for me if the doc says your body is good to go for twins than why not since is ur last shot, ppl have twin know complications so u can be one of them. Stay positive!!! Baby dust
