Yes there is a real inconsistency but what makes me worried is I used to spot before my period which I know is a progesterone deficiency so am panicking already about coming off them xx
Yes by 12 weeks the placenta is fully developed as is baby mostly developmental wise
If your clinic don't routinely do blood tests they probably won't know how to even interpret any bloods if you do have them.
The UK for the most part is pretty behind on progesterone testing so they don't really know what's 'normal' and prefer to just guess the progetsserone support 🙄
Worth asking your clinic but don't panic if they say no or don't think it's worth doing. By 12 weeks you should be fine - and just gradually reduce after your scan x
I was on two a day! When I went for my 7 week scan they told me I could come straight off it.....the look on my face must of been a picture lol so we said if I had more left I could carry on and just wean myself off it!! I’ve gone to just one in the evening xx
It seems the advice varies from clinic to clinic as some advise you can stop as soon as you get a BFP. I'm still taking two a day and as much as I would love to no longer take them I'm also worried about coming off made worse by my reflexologist saying my levels should be tested before coming off! Argh!!! Xxx
When we first started they said if we got a bfp I would be on them till 12 weeks!! When we went for the scan she said my lining was perfect! So wonder if that had something to do with it!!
I’ll just stay on one a day till I’ve used them all lol xx
I’m the same as you Lisa, the told me I would use them till 12 but today they said I could just take whatever I’ve got left once a day! My face was a picture! She said I would be fine but you can’t help but panic. Especially if you’ve had problems with progesterone, can you ask your clinic for a blood test? Xx
I think my best bet is to speak to the clinic about a blood test xx
I was told to just stop at 12 weeks. I didn’t get offered a blood test to check. It was an anxious time stopping but I had my 12 week scan the next week so that reassured me x
I was originally told till 12 weeks too, but after 8 week scan Dr said I could start coming off them at 9 weeks, which I did very gradually over weeks 9 and 10 (I was originally using 8 pessaries/day - 1600 mg!!). Apparently the placenta is now producing all we need. I wouldn't like to just stop suddenly though, take your time and come off slowly, for your own peace of mind if nothing else xxx
I came off the pessaries at 9 weeks and I was also very worried. Upon reflection I’m trying not to worry to much as the clinic I attended has a really good repputation and at the end of the day they are the experts. So I’m still waiting for my 12 weeks scan but trying to be positive 🙂
I think it’s only natural to over think things, I’m the same also probably more so after IVF.
It's completely natural to be so worried, especially with your history of spotting. But as previous posters have said, your placenta should now be producing everything your baby needs to continue thriving.
If you've got enough supply, this is what I did: continue to take as normal until 12 week scan to make sure placenta and cord are functioning well. Weaned off over the next 2 weeks by increasing the gaps between pessaries (ie so you'd be aiming for 3 every 2 days instead of 4, then 2 in 2 days, 1 in 2 days, 1 in 3 days etc.) When I got to a 3 day break I took 1 more which was my last. I had another scan at around 15.5 weeks, which happened to be mother's day last year. Thankfully everything was fine. That was nearly a week after my last pessary. If you have any spotting, continue to take as originally prescribed and ask to se the consultant immediately. It's rare that women need to take progesterone throughout their pregnancy, but there was a woman on here this time last year who had been advised she had to. I can't remember seeing a further post from her so expect everything turned out well for her. But by weaning yourself off you all yourself the chance to "catch" any problem before it becomes threatening. Good luck and I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well
with all due respect, i doubt your reflexologist is medically trained, let alone fertility trained. Trust the experts! As everyone has said, the placenta takes over by the time you stop them, hence the date they give. P.s I'm a trained nurse and a qualified reflexologist!! Xx
