Has anyone self administered Progesterone shots?

I’ve just had the call to say I need to start the shots today as my level is 30.4mmo/L. I’m worried as my husband often works late and I’m not sure who will give me the shots!

Hi Gempuddleduck are the shots in the stomach or are they intra muscular shots? If they are in the stomach this will be much more straight forward for you to self administer I think. If you are worried do you have a friend or family member close by that could help you out? My husband gives me the shots too xx

I did all my injections including the progesterone as when I asked my OH to do them I actually dodged (good instinct, not so good for getting meds in the right spot). I did mine in alternate thighs as was never asked to do them in stomach. The progesterone one I was on (lubion) were the most uncomfortable and I got raised red patches spreading down my legs from them, so I'd be tempted to have someone with you when you do them or be able to call the nurses as I think some people can react to them and it's a bit scary. However, still definitely manageable and I got more used to them and less of a reaction over time.

I’ve done all of my shots including progesterone (lubion) - no problem at all. But they were all in either thigh or stomach - agree that if they’re in the buttocks that could be a bit trickier ( though I know some women still do those themselves, with a mirror ;) ) .

Is it lubion Gem? If so you can defo do those yourself (unless you're truly terrified of needles 💜) as they're really easy. Warm the ampoules against your skim first as the stuff it quite thick and injects slowly. But I've always done those solo (actually I've always done every injection solo, I MUCH prefer the control 😆). But I'm guessing by your question it's maybe the intramuscular ones?

Hi all! Thank you so much for your replies. It’s the buttock ones - what fun! I’m going to get hubby to do tonight’s and see if I can do tomorrow’s by myself but with him there to guide me. Wish me luck and how is this my life?!?! 😂🤦🏼‍♀️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

You can also do the intra muscular ones in the thigh and that might be easier for you if you are doing it yourself. I was on prontogest previously and had to move to the thigh, watched a you tube video to help guide us xx

Sorry me again - YouTube says it’s really painful in your thigh, is that true? Xx

Hi, because it's intra muscular it is a bit more painful than some other injections. But it is manageable. I moved to the thigh because my glute was sore. I would suggest when your husband is there to do the glute and when you are by yourself to do the thigh as it will be easier for you to see and administer the area. I presume it's progesterone in oil. If so warm the vial in your bra before you inject, and you can can massage the are after to help disperse the meds xx

I cried my first go too! It was the worst one but it does get easier as you get more used to it! Hope you're okay now the first is out the way. Good luck. Xx

I did the PIO intramuscular ones myself into my glute. It was tricky the first time but you get used to it. Stand on one leg with the other leg up on a chair to make sure the glute on the side you are injecting is relaxed. Worked for me!

Brilliant! Thank you so much! I’m hoping I get used to them.
