What are people's views on baby aspirin?

My friend in Australia told me they recommend low dose aspirin to all women going through IVF (she is a midwife). Has anyone been recommended it during their treatment to increase the chance of implantation? What are people's thoughts?

I am wondering about getting some but my consultant hasn't mentioned it.

Also on day of transfer do we carry on with medications including pessaries?

Thank you for all your support, it means such a lot xxx

Hi, My previous clinic recommended baby aspirin for me as it is meant to help with egg quality but I would check with your clinic. Yes you should continue with pessaries on transfer day. Best of luck xx

Hello!

I am taking it. My clinic did not dissuade me - they didn't even tell me to stop. They said it won't harm but they didn't think it would do anything. I believe a few years ago every clinic got everyone to do it but they don't now as results are inconclusive.

For me, as I had two lupus tests (long story), one of which had a very very slightly raised result, I have decided go take it.

And yes, your drugs all continue until around 12 week mark.

Not long now. How are you feeling? Xx

Hey, all as great as can be. I am trying not to think about it... eek.

I started taking baby aspirin ages ago bit believe people actually start at transfer. So don't think it will be too late. Xx

But I would check just in case, knowing your medical history (and being doctors), they advise you specifically not to x

My clinic didn’t advise it when I first started treatment however for my last 2 cycles they have - sadly last year ended in a mmc but after a natural fet I’m currently 11 weeks pregnant and have been advised I can continue to take aspirin throughout so it can’t do any harm to the baby. I’d definitely check with your clinic though if it’s something you’re thinking of taking and yeah you do continue on your pessaries x

Aww sorry to jump on this post was just scrolling through comments and saw that you’re pregnant !

Congratulations !! I remember speaking to you quite a lot earlier in year and all the problems you were having. So lovely to hear of your good news as I have been away from the forum for the summer. ☺️

Thank you. We are starting our second FET and I was starting to lose hope but have seen some really lovely positive stories recently and older forum members finally breaking through- so gives me hope 🙏

Good luck to you x

There seems to be mixed views on aspirin, some say can help, others not...we stand no chance in knowing what to do, if the ‘experts’ don’t even agree!

Good luck x

My clinic used to tell you to take it as standard but they don’t advocate it anymore unless you have a blood clotting disorder xx

I’m so annoyed my clinic didn’t respond when I asked them last cycle if I should take aspirin and now the consultant is suggesting it himself.

For most people it is a relatively safe med to take and could increase chances for some.

But I would definitely tell your clinic first (!) it sounds as if they are abroad? As you mentioned flights etc

Generally non uK clinics tend to be more progressive anywyay so I’m

Sure they wouldn’t advise against but as they will know your full medical history it is important that they advise you.

Aspirin may even help on the flight to reduce clotting issues but who knows if it will cause unnecessary consequences too 🤷🏻‍♀️

As long as they’re lot against it I would def give it a try. I will be taking aspirin or blood thinners this cycle too.

Good luck

My clinic said no to baby aspirin for when I was going through the treatment but once I reached 12 weeks pregnant my obstetrician prescribed it to support my placenta due to me being over 35, first baby and ivf. I’ve been on it ever since. It does make you bruise easily, be warned!

I bruise really easily anyway! I've sent them an email asking, so just waiting for reply. Thanks everyone for all your comments and advice xz

Hey I live in Australia and I’m going through ivf. No one has ever mentioned aspirin?!!🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi I asked my consultant this very question (mid ET!!) due to a missed miscarriage many years ago. His response was not to take it until I got my BFP, but to then start and make sure it was the baby one! Just got to get my BFP now! x

I haven’t had IVF ( I had surgeries to treat endo & clomid) but I decided to give low dose aspirin a go. I do have raised nk cells but wasn’t allowed prednisone until pregnant. I also had suffered a chemical pregnancy & read that low dose aspirin can help to prevent miscarriage.

I am 8 weeks pregnant & I’m sure the low dose aspirin helped us.

I’d definitely ask your clinic it’s worth a go

All the best with your cycle xoxo 😘

Ive been asked to take it on all my cycles, NHS and privately. I was given it to try to improve blood flow to my uterus to help my lining. In my last two I was asked to take it in the lead up to transfer and then switched onto clexane injections as after some screening it was discovered the I was susceptible to a clotting issue. Best of luck!xx

My Spanish clinic don't start it as standard. My consultant here in NZ was gonna start it around 16 weeks due to my age and cos its an IVF pregnancy. I think it can help against pre-eclampsia as well as be useful in those with recurrent miscarriage. However, since I had the bleed at 7 weeks and there is still some residual blood on my scans they aren't going to bother.

Hope its all going well for you.
