Natural FE Questions

Ok, so I had a natural FET that has just failed as my period arrived yesterday. I have been reading more about natural cycles for FET and I am confused and concerned...

My clinic never scanned me and did not test my progesterone levels again. They tested them n trial month previous.

Literally just waited for LH surge and transferred 6 days later.

My questions is ... Is this typical or should I still have a lining scan and blood tests each transfer?

It doesn’t seem common practice in the uk does it? My clinic have never checked these things either. Can you ask to have them done next time? Just for peace of mind if nothing else xx

in reply toTugsgirl

This is what I am thinking. At least just a lining check would help me feel better. Relying on Ovulation tests that are often hard to read makes me feel like I need to do more to set my mind at ease. Thanks xx

Get yourself the clearblue digital tests (not the advanced ones). I used to use internet chepies but there was some second guessing with them. On my first Natural FET the clinic gave me a clearblue digital and I’ve never used any others since. Good luck xx

Ooh thanks, I was told by my clinic to avoid the flashy face ones that flash and then solid smile... Is that the advanced ones? xx

I had a natural FET but still had scans to check my follicles and lining and am on cycologest, I’m currently 11 weeks pregnant. Could you ask for part medicated, it might make you feel more re assured? X

in reply toE_05

Oh ok, so they did the scans because of the medication? The concern with meds is the severity of OHSS I had, so both clinic and I decided without would be best for me. The Dr is looking at my notes and will get back to Monday so I may see if they feel mild meds may help or scan with all natural round. Just seems odd that they would not want to check how it is going inside before transferring. xx

Yeah definitely does - my clinic said it’s just protocol that they scan you on day 8, I started tracking ovulation from day 8 at home. Then they judged how much scans I would need from the size of the follicle but they also wanted to make sure my lining was thick enough for transfer. I hope you get some answers on Monday xx

in reply toE_05

Thank you, I will mention scans when they contact on Monday. Even if it is an extra cost it will just settle me more I think. Thanks again xx

I'm really sorry to hear your transfer failed. Hopefully you'll get some answers and ideas to make the next one better. Please let us know what they say. If all goes to plan, I'll be doing a natural frozen cycle too. I'd also feel better knowing my lining and Progesterone levels are where they need to be. My Progesterone levels have never been checked, although I was out on Progesterone for three months while TTC. No one wants to go through all this without being sure they're giving it the best shot possible. X

Prior to my natural cycle FET, I had one scan and then I was given a single dose (think it's called a trigger shot) to ensure the egg released that month was gone before the transfer.

My lining was better than during the medicated fresh cycle. I got pregnant and had my baby earlier this year.

I think unless they were concerned about your hormones levels, they'd have given you pessaries to use post transfer so perhaps your progesterone levels were ok?

I wish you luck in any future cycles!

in reply toKempton

Thank you for the info.

My levels were good on trial round. So, i assume they are more or less the same each cycle then? As they didn't test on the actual transfer.

I just feel like I would be reassured if they would check my lining as the only time it has been was the timing before EC.

I am so confused why some clinics have different protocols. Just a little bummed out it that ot failed too.

Thanks again xx

Hey hmm maybe diff practices in diff areas. I’ve just had my transfer from a natural FET and they scanned me on the day of my surge to check my lining and size of focilies and that is all until transfer.

Cud maybe ask this for next time as think does help to check body is ready ☺️ best wishes xx

in reply toDreamingofbaby

So far most get scanned so i am definitely going to ask and also why they don't. I don't want them just assujing its ok based on a pee stick ovulation test. Thanks xx

Hi, I am really sorry about your transfer. I had a natural FET. Our clinic does a Day 9 scan to check on the lining and leading follicle. My lining was 9.1mm and the leading follicle was 16mm (they did not tell the measurements said everything looks fine but I asked for it). Since the follicles grow roughly 1-2mm/day and are considered mature at abt 18-20mm I had a rough idea that I will have my LH surge in the next 2-4days. I used internet cheap sticks & boots sticks to test (I found the clear blue purple flashing ones unreliable) and had my surge on Day 12 @ 6.15pm. They did not do any other tests and had my transfer 6days after the surge. During the transfer my consultant reassured me that my lining is thick enough and my body should do the necessary hormonal changes if the embryo sticks ruling out pessaries post transfer. Good luck for your next transfer.

Thank you. I think this is what i am looking for, reassurance. It would just be good to know where my lining is at naturally with out the stims xx

Sorry to hear about your transfer - this is such a tough process. I’m having a natural FET as they don’t want to give me estrogen as I suffer with blood clots. They’re scanning me on Day 8, 10 & 12 to check my lining and ensure I’ll ovulate this cycle. And I’ll have to test for ovulation and they’ll transfer 5 days after they detect my peak. I’ll have cyclogest after transfer. I’m worried about my lining (as I have super light periods) but if it doesn’t thicken enough they’ll cancel the cycle and do a medicated one next month. I’d ask them some more questions - I’ve read lots of positives about a natural FET but obviously need to ensure your body is ready for it. Lots of luck for your next cycle.

All the best for your FET. Sounds like they are covering all grounds too. But annoyed my clinic doesn't seem to.

I am having natural FET as I had severe OHSS and staying away from the meds all that I can.

Thanks for the comments and good luck to you xx

I wont have bloods done for transfer and although mine isnt completely non medicated as I will be having progynova to assist my lining growth however I will be having a scan around day 8 to check my lining thickness. Im guessing due to all being well on previous checks they were confident you didnt need anymore monitoring however you could always ask if they would scan or there are lots of companies that do lining scans privately like ultrasound direct which isnt expensive.xx
