First appointment

Hi everyone.

We completed our last test for the Kingston Assisted Conception Unit and just got our letter through to say we have our first appointment with a consultant in a week and a half. I know they will give us the results of my blood tests (AMH etc.) but does anyone know what else I can expect from this appointment? Will they make a plan for us and tell us when we can start ivf? I’m assuming they’ll also (hopefully) tell us we qualify for nhs funding in this meeting too?

Just a bit nervous as I don’t know what to expect. Can anyone advise me what they experienced in their first NHS consultation?

Thank you xx

Hi

Thinking back to my first appointment with consultant which was early Aug 2017, the consultant went through all test results and my medical history. He also told me at the appointment that I did qualify for NHS. I'm entitled to 2 cycles but I had to lose some weight first (I've done that now).

If you meet the NHS criteria and your local CCG provide funding then you should be accepted.

Best wishes with everything xx

Thank you genten . I have also been losing weight and now have a BMI of 27.6. Do you know if they are likely to send me away to lose more or will it be ok as I have a BMI of under 30? xx

You're welcome.

If it's NHS I'm pretty sure that below 30 is the criteria so you should be fine, you could always call up to check.

Hi Strawberry17. The consultant will discuss recent blood tsts and semen analysis, and will request repeats if any problem found in any results. He/she may want you to have a scan of your ovaries, and may request that you have a laparoscopy to have a look round for any problems and to check your Fallopian tubes too. There may be forms to sign and to take to your GP. I do have a list of questions I could email to you in confidence to look through, if you want, which may help you. You can get me at support@fertilitynetworkuk.org
