Irregular cycles

Hi I am 35 and have been trying to conceive naturally for about 11 months. I have been tracking my cycles and there is consistently about a 10 day difference on my cycle length on alternate months (eg 29 day cycle from my right ovary, 40 day cycle from my left side). Has anyone else had this before? I can’t find anything written about it

Hey SuzyL123

I also suffer from irregular cycles after tracking for a while and I thought perhaps I had one lazy ovary, as I had one long cycle and one very long cycle. Even after going on letrozole to regulate my cycles it still alternated most months(I say most as any pattern I think develops changes eventually).

My doctor however says you don't strickly alternate which ovary you ovulate from monthly, so any patterns may be something or nothing (very helpful thanks doc). I was sent for a scan which didn't show any difference between the ovaries but confirmed I have PCOS.

I've just gone through a short protocol IVF and I certainly got more folicles on one that the other. So I think one ovary is definitely more responsive than the other.

If you've not already done so you might want to get your doctor to check your hormones for two different cycles to see if there is any difference. Possibly arrange a scan just to see.

Don't worry though it sounds like while there is a difference each month the most important thing is you are ovulating.

Best of luck.

Thank you so much, that’s really helpful. We’re going to make an appointment to start getting tests done. Good luck with your IVF!

I also have irregular cycles, before the ivf journey started I would be as regular as clockwork (but back then I wasn't tracking so maybe that's just how I remember it).

I think stress has caused some of my longer cycles, it plays a big part so try not to worry about it. I'd say you are normal :)

Helo dear TTC, hope you are dpoing fine. You are entering into a highly sensitive age. It is after 35 years that the women start facing the fertility issues. Number of hormonal disturbances start happening. Due to these alterations many unexpected things start occuring. You are in the same age phase. The disturbance in the menstrual cycle can be because of this. As you are a TTC it is great that you are pretty careful about your condition. It is very important to keep a close eye on the happenings. If the cycle is too irregular then you must consult some doctor. A complete screening of the reproductive system is too important. This will clear the picture. If there is any problem it would be clarified. Before the situation worsens the problem is resolved. If there is any hormonal problem then the treatment can be administered. You continuous failure in your ttc efforts may be due to this irregularity in the hormonal cycle.

hey there! I hope you are doing great. infertility is a growing issue. a lot of people suffer from this due to different reasons. and most of the times women have blamed for this. its a big problem and we should look for solutions. I miscarried twice but never gave up on hope. I went for surrogacy after a year. and surrogacy was amazing for me. we reached out to different clinics in Ukraine. surrogacy is banned in Japan so we decided to move to Ukraine. I emailed Lotus surrogacy clinic but they didn't respond to any of my emails. I was upset, I mean whats the point of creating an info space and then not answering any of our questions. there are other options and better clinics you should look them em and make sure you are going for the right place.

Irregular cycles are significantly associated with PCOS. And the most important things during the cycles is ovulation. If you are ovulating then you have chances of conception. Since PCOS is also associated with excess ovarian reserve and mainly or eggs. So, it gets quite tricky to conceive naturally. And the difference in cycles is normal. At times it's due to stress, diet, and hormonal changes.
