‘Day 1’ quandry

Hi

I have the drugs ready to start the first IVF cycle (with London Women’s Clinic- Cardiff) and just waiting for ‘day 1’ so I can book my baseline scan.

The problem is - after only 28 years of menstruating!- I’m not sure what you count as day 1.

My period is always heralded by a light pink discharge, followed by a couple of days of what seems to be ‘old blood’ and then there will be 5 days of full on bleeding.

I would call the first day of the full on bleeding day one.

Helpfully, this month I have started with 3 days of light pink, gradually increasing in amount. Nothing else yet.

I’m terrified of missing ‘day one’ and having to delay for another month.

Any ideas?

I’d ring your clinic in case they can get you in for a scan to see!x

They said to me that if the full flow happened after midday it would be the next day as day one and to take the pill and that day if it was full flow before midday. However, my period came full flow in the morning and it was a Sunday.... So I left a message and took the pill and then the nurse phoned back and said I should have took it until the next day!! Nightmare lol. The information they gave me contradicted what they said! I don't think it made a lot of difference tbh. But what I would do is just phone the clinic just to confirm what they want you to do cos what we consider day one might not be what they do lol xx

My cycle is similar to yours and my consultant advised me that they count day 1 as full flow. But I would confirm with your clinic, they may vary on their approach xx

Hi, they usually want full flow but worth giving them a call to double check. I am with London’ women’s clinic cardiff also - they have been fab so far . I called on Monday to say it was day one and the nurse asked if I was full flow - as I wasn’t she asked me to come in Wednesday which was yesterday . Everything was ok on my scan and I started injections yesterday :) x

Thank you, ladies.

They do say full flow. I’m getting bogged down in what the definition of ‘flow’ is.

I called and have booked scan for tomorrow.
