My period has been short since we started trying 3 years ago. When I was younger my period was normal, around 5 days. From 18, I had coils for 15 years: copper-IUD-IUD-copper and my period returned with the last copper in the first month.
My period is very regular: 26-28 days but the bleed is only 1 day with very light spotting either side. From ovulation strips I seem to ovulate around day 10 which is on the early side.
I’m just looking to see if anyone else has such a short period and has been advised anything or had problems or successes getting pregnant?
The NHS don’t seem to see it as an issue but from had conflicting opinions.
I’m almost 38, I’ve been getting accupuncture and take lots of vitamins. Have started doing low impact exercise and am a healthy weight.
thank you!

I am exactly the same as you, contraception for 10 years and then my periods went from 3-4 days to 1 day and spotting. I also have a regular cycle and ovulate day 14/15ish and consultants etc have said it’s fine. I also had a uterine biopsy and that came back all normal so I think it’s just how my body is now! Don’t think it’s anything to worry about lovely, especially since your getting positive ovulation strips 💕x
thank you for sharing, that’s good to know. Yea the doctors didn’t seem bothered by it and seemed to be happy the period was regular, it’s nice to hear others experiences
My periods became lighter after I had my son. It went from 5 days to 2-3 but I still get PMS and cramps. I’ve tracked ovulation for over a year and ovulate every month, but my cycle has become more irregular at anywhere from 26 - 35 days. I worried I was becoming menopausal but the doctors have assured me that as I’m still ovulating I can get pregnant. Wishing you the best of luck ❤️
Have you had your hormonal levels checked? Might be a sign of low oestrogen as the lining is not thickening enough.. don't mean to worry you but something worth checking perhaps..?
Yes and all seem normal. That’s good to think about though. I’ve done some research on oestrogen boosting foods. I do think accupuncture has helped in the past so I’ll continue with that also. Thank you!
Hi lovely, I had the exact same. Before my copper IUD I had 4-5 day periods with normal flow, after it was removed it was like 1.5 days max of light-moderate flow and then a bit of spotting. If I were you, I would consider getting a private 3D saline scan or hysteroscopy to check for possible scarring in your uterus. Copper IUDs have been known - anecdotally, not proven - to cause scar tissue and that could be a possible cause of the light periods. If you choose to do a saline scan first (less invasive than hysteroscopy) and they see anything suspect, you could then do a hysteroscopy to have any scar tissue/adhesions removed. While I haven't personally had this done, I strongly suspect I have some scar tissue in my uterus and I was about to have the 3D saline scan done right before I fell pregnant naturally in February.
Best of luck! xxx
PS - Are you using the ClearBlue digital ovulation kits to figure out your ovulation day? It's a bit unusual to have a luteal phase (the second part of your cycle) that's longer than 14 days, so it seems slightly odd that you'd be ovulating on day 10 in a 26-28 day cycle. I find the manual ovulation strips can be tricky to interpret sometimes so if you haven't already, I'd get the ClearBlue digital strips and track ovulation for a few months using those.
That’s really interesting, thanks for suggesting and maybe something I’ll consider.
I haven’t used clear blue but have a very big spike on the standard strips so I think it’s pretty clear. Yea, the cycle is mostly 26 days on the dot and peak day 9 or 10. I have been advised ovulation can happen a bit later though after the peak and I always look out for the natural signs. Thanks so much for sharing!
