My journey so far....

I can't believe its 3 months since I posted! It's been an emotional journey and I have finally come to terms with my low AMH result. My hycosy appointment has come and gone and unfortunately it was not a pleasant experience for me and we had to abandon the procedure so we still do not know the state of my Fallopian tubes. They did give me an option to undergo a laparoscopy to have them checked but i opted against that.

I will start my NHS funded IVF & ICSI treatment in a couple of weeks time. I've just come back from my nurses appointment where they have talked us through every step of the process that has yet to come - it is overwhelming and daunting but one step at a time!

One of the most emotional aspects of this journey for me has been the robotic and stoic nature of the medical staff I have seen so far, until I met my consultant for the first time. She is amazing and an excellent communicator so I have opted to go for consultant led treatment which means alongside the NHS funding treatment, I pay the consultant to have her make the decisions and do all my scans along the way. This has taken a huge amount of worry and stress away from me and makes me feel a lot calmer about the journey yet to come.

So I have my first scan to check what my ovaries are up to and to check up on the numbers of nice juicy follicles they are growing, this will be on 16th of May which is when I will also start all of my injections. So this will be the start of the journey. The consultant has been very honest with me and has told me to treat this as a diagnostic cycle, it will give us more information and if it results in a pregnancy then this is a bonus. We have a 10% chance of getting to the stage of transferring an embryo back into me and if we get there, then we have 30% chance of this resulting in a pregnancy. At first, these figures were heartbreaking but I have come to accept them and I'm just being as positive as I can.

I'm on a concoction of vitamin and minerals including Co-enzyme Q10 and Omega 3 DHA, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D spray. I must admit since taking them I have tonnes of energy. I have removed caffeine and alcohol from my lifestyle completely, since Jan I've not had an alcoholic drink or a coffee. To be honest, I don't miss either! :) I try to exercise as often as I can and have taken up yoga which I am loving.

I have also decided to have acupuncture alongside my IVF treatment and have had a free consultation with a fertility acupuncturist - she was great!

So ladies, wish me luck and if any of you have any tips or tricks on how to get through the next 4-6 weeks then please do share! I'd love to hear them!

Xxx

Hi jengi. So sorry to hear of the way the nurses etc have treated you, but at least you have a consultant that you can trust, who will look after you. Great that you are on your way now and not too long to wait. Wishing you huge luck and I will be thinking of you. Diane

Many thanks Diane Xx

I had to have pgd, that only has a 30% chance of working, and I was at the top end of the age range so I knew our specific chances were more like 18%, and I’m now 7 weeks pregnant. It is possible to be in the minority and be successful- I hope you are too x
