FET on a natural cycle: how does it work?

Dear all - another question.

After cancelling 2 FETs because the hormonal therapy did not make my lining thick (the opposite!), I am now trying to get back to normal without hormones, and do a transfer in a natural cycle. I am still not entirely clear what that implies, though, and I worry it might be complicated as my clinic is abroad. Could anyone who has done it perhaps explain to me the procedure they went through? Thanks so much!!

At my clinic, I rang on day 1 - then had a day 8 scan to check there was a good size follicle. I then began monitoring ovulation at home, had another scan at day 12 and day 15 - I got my LH surge on day 15. I then would of had the transfer within 5 days. It should be quite straightforward but I unfortunately have fluid in my uterus so we’ve had to abandoned this month and will try again next. I definitely feel better for not having all the meds though, good luck x

Thanks, interesting! Sorry to hear though about the setback.. hopefully just a temporary one!!

Just one more question: how did you monitor the LH? Did you have to do it every day and did it require a blood test each time? As my clinic is abroad I am not sure how to arrange this, but the more I understand the process the better. Thanks again and best wishes! xx

Yeah I did it every day from day 8 at home using OPKs and then my scan confirmed that I had ovulated - I’m not sure if they would normally scan as much or if they just did it for me because of the fluid xx

Hi Vanna it’s muxh easier having a natural cycle fet!! I had many wasted cycles where they couldn’t get my lining up (my system hates Progynova and the like) I was even given Viagra for 4 days which helped a bit but made me v poorly with migraines. Basically you inform them of day 1 if your cycle when your period starts and they just book you in for a few scans to monitor follicles abs lining and when the moment is right you have your trigger shot, commence your progesterone pessaries for approx 5 days and then you’re ready for the transfer. After 6 cycles and 7 transfers this latest natural cycle worked 🙏🏼 and I wish you lots of luck!!! Xxx

Forgot to add you’ll be having bloods to monitor your hormones too. I found a natural fet much easier and most effective for me xxx

Dear Natalia,

this looks like the same process my clinic would like to use. Did you use Ovitrelle for your trigger shot? Did it give you side effects? Sorry for all these questions!! Best wishes!! xx

in reply to

Yes we used Ovitrelle and didn’t notice any symptoms at all and I’ve had lots of these. Always feel much better on a natural cycle. Good luck 🤞🏼😘xxx

Very reassuring and comforting to hear you did not have symptoms, thanks! Indeed fingers crossed! Thanks also for your other reply, I suspect I will not take so many bloods as my clinic is abroad, but let's see what happens, I am still not sure it will happen this cycle. I still need to get my hands on Ovitrelle, too. I wish it were less stressful! Your response certainly helps feeling better about all this!! :-D xxx

Oh I would love to hear how you get on if your clinic gives you the go ahead for a natural transfer, please do post your updates. Im not sure everyone does a trigger shot on a natural transfer (as I know some that havent) so you may not need it!xx

Will let you know... Best wishes to you!!

My clinic is in Washington but you need to find a local clinic for blood/medication/ scans etc where are you based? Your clinic abroad should be able to recommend local clinics they’ve worked with Xxx

in reply to

Thanks... I am in the S-W, I have found different places for scans, tests, etc. so all complicated. And it all adds up :-( . Anyway let's hope I get Ovitrelle on time, I might need it on Wednesday already depending on the scan results (I am not too optimistic though). I really don't like the idea of the trigger shot given my past reaction to hormones, so slightly nervous... xxx

in reply to

I know it’s all ridiculously expensive but don’t worry about Ovitrelle, i’m V sensitive to hormones and v ill on the pill but had zero symptoms from the trigger shot xxx

Wow, ok... thanks!! Sounds really promising... so on the 'good' cycle you did not take Viagra, right? And how many blood tests did you have to do? For LH? Or other? Thanks again!! xx

in reply to

Sorry!! I’ve only just seen this, My lining always takes a bit of time but my Consultant panicked and put me on it. My most recent natural cycle was completely natural, no viagra, nothing and worked! I can’t remember how many blood tests but there were many to check ovulation status, hormones etc, just follow the protocol xxx
