Remember I mentioned Mr Emu ran me a bath? The ultimate romantic gesture for a Yorkshire man on a water meter? Well. Something has happened to Mr Emu. I'm wondering if he's secretly taking my Progynova.
Unaided, un-hinted, un-nudged, un-nagged (yes, I nag) ... Mr Emu has announced that he'd like to take us both to a spa the day before we fly to Cyprus next weekend for our treatment! A SPA! WHERE IS MY HUSBAND?! I'm not sure if he knows that Spa's don't have Playstation 4's, guitars or Sky Sports News... but he's suggested it because he wants us to be relaxing as soon as possible. Good god I love him.
Anyway... this post is not to ramble on about how amazing my husband is. Or to debate whether Mr Emu has finally realised his wife loves the luxurious lifestyle... it is a post to say....
Erm... ladies... can I go to the spa?! I'm sure I can. I know I can't go after transfer... but what's the deal before? Can I go? Can I use Sauna's? Should I just ask my consultant?
I know I should know stuff like this... but this has never happened before. If I haven't made this clear... Mr Emu has taken me completely by surprise!

Muchos brownie points for Mr Emu! 👍👍 Enjoy your lovely spa break as a prerequisite to your transfer, what a lovely thoughtful touch. I was always told you can have a light massage, facials, mani/pedi those kind of things ahead of and in a cycle (apparently it releases toxins if you have aromatherapy or hot stones or vigorous massage 💆♀️) xxxx Ps nagging is in the marriage contract and occasionally, I mean very occasionally the men do in fact pull it out the bag 😃😘
So... you think it's all good to release the toxins? I'm not sure a mud-wrap would be ok? Although it is gentle but I worried when it said 'raise the temperature of my body'
Sorry reread that and it’s as clear as mud! The hot stones/aromatherapy/sports massage is a no no, because it releases nasty toxins we hold in our body and it takes a while to metabolise. Mani pedi, facial etc will be ok, have a word with the beautician they often get you to fill a form in beforehand and will advise you what you can have on IVF xxxx
If I’m honest they make me feel claustrophobic! However I love a good old swim, read a book and lounge around, go for a wander if there are nice grounds, there is so much more you can do to relax. I love a spa and I’m hoping to go ahead of our next cycle, all being well 🤞Thinking of you, enjoy Cyprus chica xxxx
Wow that's really lovely. The most my husband has done in this whole process is buy me some protein shakes that they told me to drink after eggs collection!! Haha.
Oh... wait... there are 360 other days of the year I am putting the toilet seat down, picking up socks, putting the milk away and hanging his coat up... 😂 x
I asked at my clinic as went to spa on stims and they just told me to enjoy. But then I think a mud wrap sounds horrid so I didn’t specifically ask about that. But I went in all the sauna/spa things and had a proper facial. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t, you’ve not had a procedure that could mean you’ve a chance of infection and you don’t have a baby in your tummy who could overheat. So it’s just normal precautions eg don’t get dehydrated.
Poor lady, if this is the case I’ve been robbed of the opportunity to be mega pampered!! Can you report back to clarify?! Even I’m confused now!! 😝🤣🤦♀️
Is it just me or are all the dos and don’ts crazy?! Why isn’t their one consistent view?! Baby aspirin not baby aspirin. Injections or nasal. Alcohol or none (I know - it’s a silly one but there’s a lady following me on my instagram ivf account & she’s in Spain and her clinic told her to have a drink or two before transfer! She’s having donor egg... my clinic plan says no alcohol!) And don’t even get me started on the blood test vs HPT!! 😂
Hi sorry if I’ve caused confusion. I can imagine that therapists etc might say about treatments releasing toxins but I don’t think there’s any medical ‘proof’ that happens and my clinic are very scientific so that’s probably why they told me it was fine. As I say, they just told me to enjoy, and suggested the relaxation would be good for me x
It’s not you causing confusion! I’m now quite interested as to what my clinic will say! And I can always rely on you for a scientific outlook... and a middle of the night response! Couldn’t sleep? xx
You’ve not caused confusion!! I have to say there are so many dos and don’ts in IVF that it absolutely drives me up the wall and honestly I’m convinced that it makes not a jot of difference! If it’s going to happen it will!! All the women who conceive naturally I’m fairly sure don’t worry about having a mud wrap before they find out they are pregnant! 🤦♀️🤦♀️
High five Mr Emu!! (I have no advice to give, Just wanted to show my appreciation!!)
This round, my hubby offered to pay for me to see a fertility coach, if I wanted to, to help me relax. And even the offer of that was sooooo sweet of him (we live in Yorkshire too....offers like this are not two -a-penny!) Xx
That's so sweet and how wonderful that he just did it off his own back 😙 It will be a wonderful way to get your mind and body into a relaxed place.
I've only been told to avoid heat from saunas etc, following my embryo transfers (not heard about avoiding before). But so much conflicting info out there as you say! 😣
Main this is enjoy and relax with each other before your transfer 💖
My partner has been giving me massages himself to help me relax at night time as I get bad insomnia and anxiety at night. He's getting pretty good with all the practice! I'm amazed he's not charging me though (we're also from Yorkshire!) 😊
Hope you have a lovely time and good luck with everythingXxx
From ignoring the water meter to bubble baths to spa days...something has been added to yorkshire’s Water supply!! My OH came home from work yesterday-asked what nice thing I’d done for myself that day, I had nothing, he said he expected me to treat myself 2hrs every day whatever it takes, cake/shopping/hair cut/pamper! Something has definitely been added to the water ‘round these parts!!!! Whatever it is Yorkshire Water...just keep on adding it!
Maybe best check with your clinic, I had a facial & all ok but not sure about a massage due to toxin release-I always feel amazing during them but awful afterwards! If in doubt, double check then u can go worry free and enjoy yourself before jetting off.
A lovely gesture, he has soooo earmt himself some brownie points...is he going to ask for a few days away with his mates soon?!!!
Well I hope you have a truly lovely time for peace of mind would follow any advice from your clinic but enjoy everything you can it will do you the world of good and what a lovely man is Mr Emu 😊
Ah, what a lovely treat! Not to add to the confusion but when I was going through my last cycle, my oh got me a massage (only cos it was my birthday!) 😏and my acupuncturist said it was a no no, due to toxin release.
I’m sure all the gentle stuff is totally fine though, and will definitely help you relax! X
Oh wow. How lovely. MrEmu sounds amazing. Do you think he could have a word with my Husband!!! Was a bit down last night and all he said was "whats the matter". How I didn't scream back "what the F@$K do you think the matter is. I'm taking drugs every few hours, I feel like shit and you made me watch football all night".
i not jealous at all!!!!
Glad your getting some well deserved chill out time before the next step if your journey. Not long now till the big day.XX
Physically I'm doing ok, my tummy is feeling less bloated so my trousers fit me again horray! However I am feeling quite down that I haven't been exercising its a catch 22, I keep trying to remember that there could be a baby at the end of it but then also not trying to get my hopes up!
You can definitely go! I went a week before transfer and it did me the world of good! Lucky you! Have an amazing time. Good chance to properly relax 😊 xxx
What a lovely gesture. I checked with a therapist friend who says toxin release after treatment can be huge and take time to flush from body. So sorry it's a NO to massage wraps stones etc. But yes to swim relax and peace 😊 Her response was..she doesn't have scientific proof toxin release will affect IVF...but why take the chance. 😊
Think there is not much “scientific” evidence for the effects of most treatment but my beauty therapist told me to avoid essential oils on my skin as some could be harmful. My clinic also tells us not to wear strong smelling perfume or deodorant on the day of egg collection and embryo transfer.
I imagine the sauna would be fine as you’re before transfer and the jacuzzi too. A facial should be ok too but tell the therapist not to use any aromatherapy oils on your skin. Manicure and pedicure should be fine too. Everyone has a different concept of risk and it’s just what we feel comfortable with. Hope you get to relax anyway there- i’ve often gone to a spa and not had any treatments but just absorbed the atmosphere. Xx
