First ever cycle- starting injections advice please xxx

Hi all,

This is our first ever ivf cycle and I started the menopur injections last night. I’ve just done my second injections and I felt so nervous still. My hands were shaky and everything. Once I’ve done the injections it seems to have s tiny pain/sting for about 10 mins after then it goes, is this normal? I’ve been massaging the skin after injections like it said in the booklet.... just looking for some reassurance that it will get easier and treat this is all normal? Xxxx

Hi Jade, I too started my injections last night! I had stinging the same as you and then it went. This is our first cycle too. It’s nice to know that other people are going through this daunting and stressful process at the same time. I wish you the very best xx

Hi, it was easier than last night but still a newbie, hopefully by day 10-16 I’ll be a pro xx good luck starting them x are you taking the nasal spray ? Xx

Hi Jade, it does sting. However I found two things helpful: whenever I bring it out of the fridge, I let it cool down before I draw it into syringe to use. Also the nurse told me to let cleaned surface on my body to dry off cos the alcohol on the swab may make it sting and it helped.

Best of luck with your treatment.

I didn’t think of that with the alcohol swab, I’ll give t a bit longer tomorrow thank you xx

I bet you’ll be a pro by day 10! ☺️ Yes I’m taking the nasal spray! Had the list of the drugs come through in the post today, can’t believe how many you have to take throughout the whole thing! It’s quite daunting! Hope it gets a little easier for you! Xx

That taste of that nasal spray drives me mad even now but apparently that means it’s working or so my nurse said xx it does look like a lot but all introduced slowly so you get your head around it xx

I didn't have to keep Menopur in the fridge once I had made up the vials. I think this lessened the stinging.

I don’t have to keep mine in fridge as it’s made up x think it depends on doses xxx

Hi,

My husband did my injections so I didn't have issue with shaking hand but it definitely stung for around an hour.

Good luck xx

Thank you, my husband did say he would do it but that seemed to make me a little more nervous, too much over thinking! Thank you for advice xxx

Hi Jade1003! I didn't have to keep mine in the fridge and I had no alcohol wipes, I was advised these were not needed as I would be doing the injections in my own home which my body was already used to. But I found taking myself off somewhere quite and preparing everything in a methodical way with my booklet open really helped. I made sure that I had no top on so I would not need to worry about it getting in the way and found that by very slowly pushing the needle through the skin (and through the little roll of flab - which I was very grateful for 😊) helped, I had no sting, pain, bruise, not even a pin prick. I hate needles but I would easily do it all again. I hope this helps xx

Thank you, seems we are coping with it the same, i found tonight's a-lot easier, did what i needed to do to prepare took a deep breath and done it, a-lot easier than yesterday, i feel the build up to doing it is the worst part as i know i need to do it, i'm trying to have dinner earlier than usual as i'm feeling sick (from the nerves i think) around evening time when i need to do it.

Hope your okay. I just read your recent post. My AMH levels went from 11 to 5.5 and then back to 8 all within 3 months. apparently it all depends on where test is carried out as they can vary clinic to clinic.... Fingers crossed for you xx

Definiely a deep breath helps! I just kept telling myself I needed to do it and felt myself getting stronger and stronger with every one I did. I couldn't have anyone near me when I did it (no noise in the house lol) and luckily my husband was working away 😊 I had dinner earlier as well to help and made sure I was at home for nearly all of my injections. Thank you I am good just trying to lower my fsh at the moment in readiness for my next day 2 blood test so 🤞🏼three of my AMH blood tests were done in the same nhs lab, only my highest reading was done in the private lab. Apparently there is no evidence to explain why there can be a change and like a lot of infertility/fertility matters, not enough scientific research to explain it. Good luck with your journey and hoping you get your miracle xx

The definitely gets so much easier over time, I got really stressed the first time as I couldn’t get the solution out of one bottle into another but once I learnt a little trick to push air in first by the end I was a pro! Good luck xx

I had my injections in my first cycle waiting for my second. Pinch the skin. Use the wipes. You will be a pro in no time! Once you have injected remove the needle and apply pressure (slight pressure) to the site. You will be ok. It takes time to get used to it! But you will

I remember having to psych myself up for it, but it will get easier. I used to ice my skin in the early days (before and after injections) and found this easier and less painful. I wrapped an ice block in a clean tea towel. I also found it stung less if I left the needle in for a few seconds after injecting, before removing it. Good luck with everything xxx

Hi, yes i was exactly the same the skin went a little hot and itchy. Try to make sure you don’t inject too shallow. Good luck with your journey xx

Hi Jade,

I started injections last month and every injection I have had has done this. When i started Bemofola they came with small antiseptic wipes and they were really useful so I bought more might be worth a try.

Hi, all the best . You’ll be a pro by the end. Mine stung so much. You will soon learn that certain sites sting more than others so avoid them . I found that warming the vile in my hands before I drew it up helped.

My nurse told me to keep it out to warm to room temperature after it has been drawn up/ mixed up. But keep in a dark place/ in a box away from light.

Also what someone else said about the wipe. Let it totally dry before you put the needle in.

I found playing music in my Bluetooth headphones ten mins before calmed me a bit. I made a positive play list and used it every night. I also rewarded myself with a Percy pig after each one . Ha ha ! Don’t forget to deep breathe and relax your tummy muscles.

All the best to you ,

Rhinocat x
